Whatever path you choose you are going to get bombarded with information on components and such, but really most of that comes down to personal preference, which you will also encounter a lot of.

Write out a checklist of things you want to be able to do, and then start sourcing parts that will allow you to do that.

Lastly, save up more money than you think you need, and treat it like buying a car (that you get to build). I say that in the sense that when you do end up buying your parts, know that in mere weeks they will be yesterday's news.

You might even consider start a cheap build just to test the waters of VR and see if you really want to do this as much as you think you do.
