I don't really see the issue with giving folks that have Redrix's Claymore the stuff they're getting. They get an emblem, and they get immediate access (or chance for drops, really) to what is essentially the new version of the gun with random rolls. Would you propose they have to do the grind again to get Redrix's Broadsword?

No issue. Just I wanted the thing, and now getting the things helps you get more things. My inner completionist is not amused.
