They wouldn't just get rid of it. It was planned for far too long, and with a request like this when Bungie is so close from going Gold with Destiny, it's just not going to happen.

Yeah, I realise it's unlikely to happen for release, but judging from the reaction in the comments here this is a pretty common complaint; maybe they'll be do something about it in a future content release.

The way I look at this kind of UI flow is that it should be as friction-free as possible; any process that involves 3 steps when it could be 2 will involve hundreds, if not thousands of unnecessary actions over the lifetime of the game. That's definitely something that's worth investigating.
