So here's the deal.

Me and My efficiency obsessed ass have been working on a post. In this post I was going to use Imgur Gifv. Lots of Imgur Gifv. In the back of my head the mutterings of how inefficient Gifv was implemented bounced around, but I wanted to test it.

I did. WOW.

SO MUCH HANG TIME, BRO!

Knowing that this would have made Funkmons Internet explode, I wanted to see what it would take to create compress a .gif so that it would stay a .gif on Imgur - which is 2MB.

Oh Geez. >_<

The Result:

Here is the Original Imgur Gifv:

So Is the compressed result doable? Yea... I guess. And if the result of this post is No, It shall be what I use in the post I'm making.

But.

I mean.

COME - ON!

"We're in 2016" or something. (Is that what you kids say? I don't know. Whatever.)

So I asked my self if there is a better way. Keeping in mind I don't really understand much about APIs and Codey-Typey-Thingys, I think I "found*" a better alternative. (*Reddit)

Gfycat

Oh. And while I'm making requests can we can get Xbox DVR embed-able? That would be super cool too.

(Or we could skip all that and enable the ability to embed HTML like we could at HBO...
but I guess that is none of my business.)

I've added this. See the media embed templates section at the bottom of a new post/post reply screen for details. (Basically, just bracket the full XboxDVR url in 'xdvr' tags.)

You can pretty clearly hear a bubble being deployed before you take the gaze...

You do a ward of burt or whatever the titan ball is on the bridge behind the ogre, then the ogre looks at that area so you can shoot him in the back. This is similar to the bubble distraction used in Crota.

They had no distraction, saylortwift just shot golgoroth from the front.

Oh. I've just always done it the way in the video. :P

Pulling that off with no titan bubble whatsoever would have been impressive (but foolish from a DPS standpoint)

by Chappy, Arlington, VA., Thursday, July 28, 2016, 20:17 (2800 days ago) @ CyberKN

Yep, this was the final strategy my raid team used for Golgoroth to maximize DPS. We wanted to record the gaze holder's perspective for future reference, since it's more difficult to do it this way - the gaze holder has to drop the orb and grab the gaze solo while being targeted by Golgoroth. Well done doing it this way all the time - we'd been using a distraction titan bubble in the back right before this (and before the distraction bubble, had been using a distraction gaze holder).

The gaze holder gets on the top box on the left as shown in the video. The rest of the team is at the front, ready to move into the pit. A defender titan moves first and pops a weapons bubble in the front left corridor below the gaze holder before the orb is dropped (this is the bubble you hear). You can see RDH616 do this in the video. Note that Golgoroth isn't firing at a distraction bubble in the back right - he's firing at the gaze holder. As soon as the bubble is opened, the rest of the fireteam moves into the bubble in the pit. The gaze holder drops the orb with his heavy and grabs the gaze with his sniper. The DPS team is only steps away from the pool at that point and already buffed by weapons of light, so they can use the entire duration of the first gaze to do damage. With this strategy, we drop Golgoroth in two damage cycles.

This video was recorded during a Golgoroth challenge, so you see gaze holder #2 leaving at the 10 second mark.

I suppose this isn't the worst thing to be known for.

I've done golg just about every way. On the challenge mode we usually would have 2 dps phases, one at start and one at the end.

The cave method is the most effective I've seen if you are not intending to use melting point.

My opinion is that shooting from the front is better if the gaze holder is a great player, but distracting him from behind is a great way to make the gaze holder seem like a great player. :)

Not sure what you mean by 'look' but there is a massive discrepancy between the two video's gamma levels.
If you can't see it for yourself, I can't help ya.

What may account for the discrepancy between the recordings is if Claude's HDTV/Monitor is too bright and he's compensated for it by turning down Destiny's own brightness settings.

It may look completely normal to him during gameplay, but the Xbox is recording the darker Destiny footage.

Brightness in Destiny is middle of the road (3 out of 5? Whatever's exactly in the middle of the scale).

I'm actually pretty happy that I can go up or down from there, when the need arises. ;)

True.

But that is easier at the time than say, "Hey, lest wait 'til (insert player's name here) recalibrate's their TV correctly.
Especially right before a raid. ;) In those situations, I just want the player to see the target. :P

But my systems are calibrated correctly for HD REC 709, gamma, color saturation, refresh rate and latency.
Only other thing I can think of, is there might be something on his that is set to RGB when it's looking for YUV.

You make it sound like you think there is "a" setting that is perfect for all systems; that there must be something wrong with my setup (you used the words "too bright" in a few places, and this suggestion that my inputs might be wrong). You seem to be ignoring the fact that all calibration needs to be done with respect to the environment that the screen is being used in. When I move my office from one place to another (and I've done that at least 4 times in the past 2 years, because of the remodel we STILL haven't finished), I recalibrate my screens - and there are always changes. Because light in the basement isn't the same as light in the den, or in a front bedroom.

My settings are CLEARLY darker than yours - but that doesn't make them 'wrong', or set to an incorrect color space - it means my environment is different than yours.

I'm not making anything 'sound like' anything nor am I ignoring anything regarding TV calibrations. Nowhere in any of my posts did I say there is a 'perfect setting' people should use, or ones other people (or you use) are 'wrong'. As I stated in this earlier post:

I simply noticed a discrepancy in the two recordings brightness and thought of a potential explanation.

Yeah, and that's the spirit in which I responded to the first three posts. After 3, though, it starts to feel like you're saying "you're doing it wrong." If you're NOT saying that, using phrases like 'too bright' is ill-advised; that's a value judgement. If I'm compensating for something that's too bright, I could AVOID compensating by making it less bright.

But it's not too bright. It's exactly the right sort of bright for the space I'm in. It looks dark when viewed on systems that are calibrated for lower overall levels, sure. But that's a totally different thing.

It's fine. It wasn't until you said "there might be something on his that is set to RGB when it's looking for YUV" that I finally said "he's not suggesting we're in different environments, he's suggesting my environment is wrong." So I clarified.

Heh, thanks. TBH some of the late model AWD cars make it a bit easier (driving the 2000's and 2010's sets are like being in a cartoon). Their suspension soaks up bumps a lot better, and they're easier to throw around hairpins. That particular car is sort of good and sort of not - it has those two advantages, but it's an R4 class which is extremely heavy. Sometimes it doesn't want to stop or turn as soon as I'd planned. That's why I recorded that run, it's rare that I get through cleanly in an R4.

Hell yes.

You might beat me there, then. I haven't spent much time on Pike's Peak and I still don't know the course. It's hard with no co-driver calls. I'm starting to recognize some of the corners, but only when I get right up to them, and I still don't know what order they're in.

Rally Cross makes me angry. It's well implemented and the driving is fun, but trying to actually progress sucks. The cars all tend to knock each other around at the beginning, and sometimes you can find yourself too far behind to catch up and finish in a good position.

I ended up tweaking my steering settings a little more. The stuff I was using worked OK for everything except the Lancia Stratos and 037 - those two were twitchy as hell. Think I have it dialed in now.

I played for a few hours last night. Started a new Clubman championship with the Group B Quattro. I absolutely love this car. It's crazy fast, but it's actually really well balanced and surprisingly easy to drive. I'm also looking forward to getting the Group A Subaru, and into the R4 cars, but it'll be a while before I can afford any of those. Luckily this game does seem to pay out at a pretty good rate.

I love this game, but I've also recently fallen in love with the new Hitman and have been playing that quite a bit. I'm also still obsessed with The Witcher 3 and keep going back to it for a few hours every couple of days. I'll be making sure to play more Dirt Rally, though. I'd forgotten how good it is.

Pikes Peak is great. Not having the call outs is rough at first, but the run isn't actually all that long, so it doesn't take much to learn the corners. The dirt version is way more fun that fully paved variant though. I wish there were more hill climb tracks, though, rather than just Pikes Peak at various stages of being paved.

Rally Cross makes me angry. It's well implemented and the driving is fun, but trying to actually progress sucks. The cars all tend to knock each other around at the beginning, and sometimes you can find yourself too far behind to catch up and finish in a good position.

I just can't get into it (or get good at it, I guess). I hate the FWD cars--they're just no fun to drive. Maybe if I save up a bunch of money and buy one of the AWD cars I'll enjoy it more, but I'm putting that one the back burner for now and am just going to focus on rally.

I ended up tweaking my steering settings a little more. The stuff I was using worked OK for everything except the Lancia Stratos and 037 - those two were twitchy as hell. Think I have it dialed in now.

I still need to tweak mine some more. I've been using that set up you posted the week the game released, and it feels pretty good. I haven't tried the Stratos yet, but the 037 is basically impossible to drive. I'll have to fiddle with the steering settings some more at some point.

Something I came to realize through this game, which I'd sort of heard hinted at by the former drivers in interviews but hadn't really crystalized for me, is that those cars weren't necessarily hard to drive in the way that people think. It's not that they were too powerful and got away from the drivers. They're actually pretty smooth and controllable, it's just that there's very little time to think because they're moving so fast. Maybe too little for humans. Dirt Rally just made me realize how thin the line is between a good run and not quite reacting fast enough.

I'm also looking forward to getting the Group A Subaru

It's been my favorite of the Group A cars. I'm a Subaru person anyway, but I really do think that one drives the best.

The dirt version is way more fun that fully paved variant though.

Yeah, you can tell those cars were not made with pavement in mind. They don't like paved hairpins.

I just can't get into it (or get good at it, I guess). I hate the FWD cars--they're just no fun to drive.

I thought the Minis were OK, but that next class up is just lame. Too much power for FWD and it's nothing but understeer all the time. If I could just skip them and go to the AWD "supercar" class I'm sure I'd do better there.

On the normal rally side, the F2 kit cars are also FWD but I think they're super fun.

I played for a few hours last night. Started a new Clubman championship with the Group B Quattro. I absolutely love this car. It's crazy fast, but it's actually really well balanced and surprisingly easy to drive.

Yeah, that makes sense. I always got the impression that the Quattro wasn't necessarily hard to drive, it was just stupid fast.

I'm also looking forward to getting the Group A Subaru

It's been my favorite of the Group A cars. I'm a Subaru person anyway, but I really do think that one drives the best.

I just got it tonight. Holy crap. It's . . . perfect. What an incredible car to drive.

I just can't get into it (or get good at it, I guess). I hate the FWD cars--they're just no fun to drive.

On the normal rally side, the F2 kit cars are also FWD but I think they're super fun.

I'll keep that in mind, because I was honestly just planning on skipping those completely.

And, PS: I'm sure you've seen it, but, just in case (and in case anyone else here is interested in rally), here's a neat little documentary about Group B called Too Fast to Race. The followup, Still Too Fast to Race used to be on YouTube as well, but I can't find it anymore, just clips from it. ):

As it happens, both of the weekly events right now are for that class. Good time to get one and put some miles on it.

I have, but it's worth a watch.

Look what I just found. I can't remember whether I've watched that one, bookmarking for later.

This one's good, too.

Edit: Ari Vatanen is my hero. I could listen to him talk about driving all day.
