Raid Secret? *Spoilers* Also *Spinfoil Hat Time, Big Time* (Destiny)

by Kahzgul, Tuesday, October 18, 2016, 21:19 (2745 days ago)

This whole post is full of spoilers for the normal mode raid. Don't read it at all if you don't wanna know.

I don't have screenshots because I'm a ninny. Sorry guys.

Last night my buddies and I were sherpaing three friends through the raid who had never done it before. We intentionally did not tell them anything about any encounters, only showed them where hidden things were like chests and monitors etc.

Anyway, we got to the disco lights room in the tesseract and the new guys noticed something. Before I tell you what they noticed, I want to remind everyone what this room is. After the 4th monitor room, you go down down down into the freaking awesome tesseract from Oblivion/giant siva octahedron. Inside it is pitch black. Except when a guardian walks over a section of the floor, that section lights up like the floors lights of a disco (except all whitish-blue instead of fun and multicolored. This room has been largely ignored by the raiding community. We got the 5 monitors, there can't possibly be another secret here, right?

EXCEPT: One of the new guys jumped down to Aksis pt.1 area and noticed that the floor directly beneath the Tesseract hole has a pattern on it. A pattern that 100% matches the disco floor of the tesseract. This floor has 9 sections. The middle one (the hole in the disco floor, assuming they do correlate) is unique. Of the remaining 8 sections, two of them are tiny representations of the disco floor (small middle square surrounded by 12 much smaller outer squares) and six of them are section-sized squares with circles somewhere in them. There are six members in a fireteam. Also, if you kill yourself at this point, before having started the Aksis fight, you respawn in the disco room. From the disco room, you can clearly "read" the map on the floor below by standing at an edge and using your sniper rifle to zoom in.

It all seems far too coincidental to me, and I suspect that there is a secret in the disco room that has to do with the clue on the floor below in the Aksis room.

Start your spading!

PS: If you don't know what spading is, it relates to the four "suits" of gamer. Clubs mostly pvp. Hearts play to help people. Diamonds want to collect all of the things. Spades want to dig into the game and discover all of the secrets it holds.

Yeah, our blind group noticed it, but try as we might, we couldn't figure out anything to do with it.

I, for one, would be majorly disappointed if that room is just eye candy.

Me too. There's just too much potential there. What all did you guys try? It was getting late so all we did was the obvious: Six fireteam members on each of the 6 marked sections from the map. We each stood towards where the circle on the map showed. No noticeable effect. We did notice that the ceiling in the disco room also has a similar pattern to the map below, so we wondered if we would have to find a matching section of tile, but the numbers were all off so that seems unlikely.

We tried switching the reference edge (like, which square down below was which up top). Then we tried dancing. Then running in coordinated circles to try and light up ALL of them at once (failed miserably).

Is it possible it that there is a sequence we've all overlooked that uses those in that room, like how the prior room has the binary lock?

Anything's possible! You could certainly activate the squares in order because you can be in the middle of the room and not be on any lightable square.

I love that room

It definitely feels like *something* is supposed to happen there.

The area directly below that room, is the “back” teleport location for Aksis Pt. 2. I can’t check at the moment, but do all of his teleport locations have that pattern on them, or just the back one?

I wonder if anything happens up top if someone stays behind for the Aksis fights.

Yes, that's the spot!

No idea.

Also no idea.

The disco floor tiles are basically a mirror of the room below where we fight Aksis? The room is segmented into specific areas where the encounters happen. Doors where captains and servitors are released, places where there are plates on the floors, places where charges must be thrown, safe zones to avoid SIVA, places Aksis must be slammed, places where Supers are charged, etc.
Can all action areas be transposed onto a disco floor tile or an area of the tile?

Is there a way to simulate the encounter(s) that take place directly below, on the light up disco tiles might light the disco floor tiles in a specific sequence which might unlock the possible secret?

The method we use where an empowered player moves across the map to cover a new area might be key? A player lights a disco floor tile and has to cross over to the other side to light a tile on the opposite side in a specific sequence, all players rotate around the tiles?

If it is truly a disco dance floor (it is what we all almost universally associated it as), are there any actual dance steps that we can execute on the tiles - emotes don't count? The samba, the foxtrot, Charleston?

Noticed last night there were grungy old footprints on the floor of the Aksis room around certain objects.

I know there's been people who've tried all sorts of combinations of lighting up the floor, such as having guardians stand on the tiles corresponding to where the circles are on the pattern below. I believe there's also another set of 'dead' tiles that border the ones that light up for a total of 7 or 8 tiles in that room. If you're interested in what's been tried take a peek at /r/raidsecrets.
