Seattle suggestions (Off-Topic)

I'll be Seattle this weekend with not a lot planned except maybe to see some museums I've not found the time for before.

Any suggestions that only locals know about? PAX has been the focus of my attention during all previous visits.

Bungie folks, you may see me skulking around midday Monday.

Pinball and kink are very big in Seattle. Either float your boat?

What happens in Seattle ... um, wait.

I might go to what I call the Hendryx museum again, depending on what's there. I'm definitely going to try to go to Seattle Art Museum, which I've always wanted to go to. They have a Andrew Wyeth exhibit, which is more my speed than kink, although I do enjoy pinball.

There's a pinball museum, or just go find a place to play near you:

They have some kind of needle thing you can go up in. It's obscure, but if you ask a local they should know.

If you like Fancy Dining (which is really the only travel advice for which I can expect to be useful) there was a place I ate at and liked a lot called the Book Bindery.

A few people I play with are often late or hard to schedule because they love some place called Thai Tom's?

I drove up for the Boeing Tour and I thought that was worth it, but I suppose you would need to like tech or manufacturing or big machines or aviation.

I asked many locals and all of them said the same thing: Stay away!

The Book Bindery closed in 2014. It reopened, briefly, as 'Hommage', later that year, then closed again. The chef opened Copine last year in Ballard; pretty highly thought of.

The Needle is fine

and so is Chihuly.

You'll love both.

Also, Pike Place Market.

Swallow your pride and snobbishness (Cody) and enjoy being a tourist.

While I am not there regularly, it's often been home enough that there are some things worth noting for checking in on.

Be warned that all of the food suggestions I provide are Vegan, and I know some folks get their flesh coverings in a bundle over that.

SAM and the MoPOP are both great. Albeit they aren't exactly secrets. The Seattle Center in general. It is definitely worth it to check out if there are events going on at any of the venues there. Chihuly Garden and Glass is neat, and worth the pass through if you are getting one of the all-access passes or w/e they call them. Same for Pike Place Market. The waterfront is great to hit at night, the Seattle Great Wheel is totally worth it.

Mighty-O Donuts are premium. I get a box whenever I pass through Seattle, without fail. Their Capitol Hill location is within walking distance of the Jimi Hendrix statue. There are a lot of neat galleries and odd shops in that area, too. Plum Bistro for some fancier dining. Their "Mac n Yease" is one of the best tasting things in town.

Personally my favorite place to pass through is the U District. Scarecrow Video is great just to wander around, even if you aren't gonna rent/buy anything. Araya's Place is probably my favorite Thai food in Washington. And (though I am sure some would disagree) the best French Toast you can get in Seattle is at Wayward Vegan Cafe.

And University Way is great to walk around. Pink Gorilla is definitely worth the stop. The Dreaming is probably one of my favorite comic shops anywhere. They are quite welcoming. There is a Farmer's Market (North of 50th st) on Saturdays that is usually worth a stop, whether for some of the foods or there usually being some variety of street artists or other wares. It is year round.

I won't suggest any bars without at least some inclination of your preferred bar experience. Because sending someone to a metal bar is very different from any of the bro bars or commuter bars.

You can only pack so much in a weekend though. So yeah.

If you've got some time and don't mind the drive, head up to Anacortes, there's a fantastic little shop there called the Donut House, best glazed donuts on the West Coast. More importantly you can drive back down through Deception Pass, absolutely beautiful and doubly so this time of year (my opinion).
You'll end up on Whidbey Island and get to take a ferry back across the Sound. It's one of my favorite little jaunts, again if you've got some time and don't mind driving.

It's gonna be weird without a bunch of DBOers walking around, but I appreciate all the suggestions.

Been up in the needle. It was dusk and I got to see daytime Seattle become nighttime Seattle. It was glorious. I'd like to show it to people, but without that excuse, I probably won't go back.

I guess I should've given you some clues about interests. I like funky music shops and book shops. (After going to Powells a few months back, all book stores are slightly disappointing now.)

I also love art museums. I'll go to one at least.
