As fast you can shoot? (reply)

Can you explain exactly what about the xbox controller design lets you fire very fast? I don't get it.

Source: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/accessories/controllers/elite-wireless-controller

Fire faster with Hair Trigger Locks

With the flip of the Hair Trigger Locks, you can fire more quickly and save valuable time with each trigger pull. Hair Trigger Locks stop the trigger movement after the shot and get you ready for the next one. Simply flip the switch again to get back to full-range trigger motion. Each trigger has its own Hair Trigger Lock for independent control. Within the app, you can further fine-tune trigger settings.

Before the Elite, you had to manually watch how much you were pushing in the trigger to get the full effect of the hair trigger perk and to fire as fast as possible, but with the Elite, it's a toggeable setting so there's no thought involved and anyone can fire it as fast as possible. The only thing that stops this from breaking all the other guns is they have a fixed rate of fire, while MIDA technically does not with the perk.

As fast you can shoot? (reply)

Wouldn't that give Elite Controllers some sort of insane advantage?

Yes, that is exactly the point. A hair trigger MIDA with an Elite controller effectively breaks the gun about as bad as a Warlocks Tlaloc does when they're super is charged. Both of those combined effectively make it the fastest TTK of any weapon by leaps and bounds which is why it is soo sought after by everyone. The only reason we didn't see this level of MIDA dominance back in the days of the exotic handcannons was because controllers didn't fire on a hair trigger like the Elite does now. If Bungie decided to remove the hair trigger perk on MIDA we might actually see it fall in line with other scouts of its impact class yet it would be much like its year 1 self, good, dependable, and even exotic, but not stupidly overpowering.

True. Speed is really important. (reply)

Obviously accuracy is important, but MIDA has an effectively unlimited fire rate since it can be done on a hair trigger, and does mid fire rate damage. That's huge. I use the trials scout rifle sometimes, and it requires 5 headshots to kill, minimum. MIDA can technically kill in 3, I think. At least 3 and a body shot. And it can fire auto rifle fast.

False. It does 52 damage on headshots with the right ballistics. That's a 4 shot kill minimum as 3 headshots and a body shot leaves you short for 98% of guardians.

Snipers gripe (reply)

baffling changes in Sniper Rifle archetypes

Snipers have remained relatively unchanged since launch. The only real change that happened was the range being scaled, which only affected the longest range snipers like ice breaker

I really can't understand everyone's problem with snipers, I've been sniping since day 1 and don't feel there is anything wrong with them.

I think when you understand people who snipe in destiny have been doing so with pretty much the same gun for the last year.. Because they haven't been changed people have got a lot of practice and are REALLY good with them.

I think peoples problem with snipers that they don't realise is every time bungie changes the weapons in Destiny and you have to find your "new meta weapon" us snipers are still doing what we have been doing and you cannot counter it as you don't have a years practice with your new weapon.

Snipers are solid, nothing needs to be changes about them other than bringing patience and time into year 2.
'Y'all' just need to get more creative with your counters.

/rant over.

New Favorite Crucible Primary (reply)

I have 3 of the Banshee Surros PDX-45 Pulses I've picked up over the past few months. One has the exact rolls as yours. Another has even more stability but its range is quite low. I also have 3 Hawksaw Pulses but prefer the rolls on the PDX-45's.

I am playing Destiny like Halo 2, running around with a noob combo. Blade dancer with Quick Draw selected. Hit them with a Telesto first to weaken them then finish with the PDX-45. I can't be the only person doing this... It's darn cheap and works for my horrible PvP skills.

I have noticed some weird behavior with telesto in PvP of late. Mostly having to do with not seeing the shots fired, ever, and just exploding suddenly. Doesn't look like lag so much as it looks like the game totally forgetting to run the animations. Are you seeing any of that?

New Favorite Crucible Primary (reply)

The biggest thing is that in PvP each body shot does 38 damage, each headshot does 57 damage. So 0.9 seconds TTK for 3 headshots + 1 body shot, which is darn respectable. 6 shots to a target for 1.5 seconds, but if they are turned around or already hurt a little then it's still a super fast kill. Good aim assist and pretty fast firing, along with great range and speed increase.

I can see why it gets a lot of use.

Agree, Speed is life (reply)

Specifically speaking to MIDA, if you aren't using it with maxed-out agility, you aren't getting the full effect of the weapon. If you spec out that way, you can really cruise around the map and be aggressive with flanking. Putting damage, backing out, popping out somewhere else, it really enables guerrilla tactics.

Claude, try as a Striker, max out your class Agility (I usually go agility and armor, kills happen so fast in this game "recovery" rarely makes a difference imo) and spec mida for the +2 agility boost. I usually play with the 3rd scope option.

Then, land headshots and run around the map.

As was also mentioned, I too worry that because it's more popular now, the masses will cry "OP!!" and it will be nerfed, because that is what happens in this game.

New Favorite Crucible Primary (reply)

I read something a couple weeks ago that claimed one of the Destiny data aggregation sites was showing it as THE most-used primary in PvP right now. Not really sure where that came from, since the gun itself hasn't been changed much (directly) in quite a while. Maybe the overall changes to the meta just brought SRs up in the world - MIDA's always been a standout in the group, I guess.

MIDA behaves no different than it used to. The difference is that now it's one of the only effective counters to Sniper Rifles (1000 Yard Stare). In Y1, there were a variety of weapons that hit hard and fast enough that if you got the jump on a sniper, there was virtually no chance they could hit you, and you'd win the fight. Since they destroyed hand cannon range, and now scaled back pulse rifles, there's not much (besides MIDA) that fits that bill. This (as well as the baffling changes in Sniper Rifle archetypes, plus Hidden Hand/Unflinching) has led to the all-too-common phenomenon of snipers being able to hit you in the head despite being shot.

New Favorite Crucible Primary (reply)

Mida is a mystery to me. It's clearly the new big thing; I get DESTROYED by it in PVP. Many people using it, many people outshooting me (usually when I'm wielding a pulse rifle).

I also remember something quite a while back claiming that if you made all headshots, it had one of the fastest TTKs of any primary - if I remember right, it was only bested by The Last Word (NLB and Universal Remote don't count). Of course, that was long enough ago that things might have changed. But I know that the one and only time I ever put any real effort into PvP, I used MIDA, and even in my hands it felt like a wrecking machine.

As for what you might be doing wrong, I don't really know anything for sure, but Cody's probably right. Headshots are pretty important. And if you're used to a certain firing rhythm with SRs, it's likely that MIDA can go a bit faster.

The whole MIDA trend in PvP actually has me a little worried they might nerf it, which I don't think is necessary and would potentially make it less useful in PvE, where I live. I genuinely don't think it's an overpowered gun, it's just very fast and precise, and hence rewards good shooting.
