This was basically the original idea for the XBOX One and people flamed MS into retrogressing. Just saying. I thought it sounded like too little benefit over just buying digital, but maybe it would have led to more sales and discounts?

My wife pulls out the destiny disc so she can put in her "pilates" exercise DVD garbage. Everytime I go to start up destiny I have to get my fat ass off the couch because it tells me to put in the game disc. This could save my marriage.

We were just talking about this last night since I brought my bone over to my bro's house to play. Both of us tried to start Destiny without the disc as late as 9pm central and it wouldn't load. I'd love to not have to use a disc. I'll test again in a bit.

Unless there's a way to uniquely identify each and every disc (I think that would be cost-prohibitive, much cheaper to make them identical), you would buy one copy and lend it to every single friend of yours.

CD keys were a fairly good solution, no?

I don't know why it needs a disc anyway since Destiny requires a server check to even play it at all. Should just be able to install it and run from the HD without a disc.

Yeah, but requiring a disc to be in a drive is Microsoft covering their asses from pirating. Logging into a Destiny server is basically the same thing "You are playing Destiny", however they are different companies.

There seems to be some confusion on reddit as to if this is actually legit or not. The xbox store does say that vanilla destiny is free, but there is no download link. Others are saying you have to uninstall your disc based copy to get the download link. Being in a rural area with not so great internet, i'll wait for someone else to try that.

I'm curious if there's anyone here from PS3 or 360 that hasn't installed on the ps4/one that could check if the install button is there.

If they are truly making Vanilla destiny free, that means that those of us still running from disc can finally ditch it.

Also, it makes me wonder if Destiny 2 will actually install on top of Vanilla Destiny, which would mean that you would need a digital license for Vanilla so that you could run Destiny 2 from disc (assuming you buy D2 on a disc)

EDIT: There was another comment on reddit that says you can just load the game without the disc now, no change needed. I will try that tonight when i get home.
