That probably means I haven't changed my 360 gamerpic in about 10 years - it's unlikely that I would have bothered to change it unless some shiny new thing had JUST become available. Holy crap is that a weird thing to think about. I mean, 10 years gone by.

I hope so, because I was excited about the early beta. I am afraid I have gotten none, even though I did pre order with the expansion pass and everything :(

Speaking of pentathlons, Bungie had their annual event last week. If you're not familiar with it, it's a long-running tradition of forming the studio into teams based on seniority and letting have at each other in a number of different games (by Bungie and by others). This Bungie.Net article will introduce you to the teams and the games, and you can look back on Bungie's Twitter to see who won what!

Hmm. I was going from memory since I didn't have my notes, but after looking them over there was definitely a change in the definitions of each of the groups, for instance, shortening the amount of time before you move up.

So yeah, correction there.

They don't do that anymore...

They absolutely do, they just don't always publicly talk about it (it is an internal event after all). I saw some Bungie employees discussing their shirts for their team within the last year.

There is the slight problem of all the new hires… the Grizzled Ancient team would be super small! Even in the late 2000s it was tough, as a really large portion of the studio had less than 5 years there. I believe it was then when they scraped the division by seniority.

And I always feel it's sort of disappointing the way the people who've been Bungie fans from way back get nothing special -- just the same chance to not be superhumanly fast enough with the copy & paste beta code out of some dude's Twitch stream as everyone else. I want a Marathon-related Destiny emblem!

You realize it's literally not the same company anymore? For everyone there but Jason Jones, I and many others have been a fan since before they were even hired.

Yeah, I suppose I do realize that, and I know first-hand how hard it is to keep institutional memories alive when there's been so much turnover. Still, though. It's one day a year for fans; give some love to the old ones, the deep ones, the ones posting at places like DBO and not, I don't know, streaming on Twitch? I don't know. I'm old, I'm crabby; get off my lawn.
