A guy at Gamestop told me that they no longer have midnight launch parties.

Were midnight launch events a thing before Halo 2? I don't ever remember hearing of these for games or movies before H2. Now that we have digital download, will they ever be a thing again?

Looks like someone didn't line up for the midnight showing of Phantom Menace in 1999, only to go home at 3am questioning the fairness of life.

Got my pre-order receipt from Microsoft yesterday and it says 9/5. So I have no idea.

If it is like Destiny, then the servers are active the moment it is September 6th somewhere in the world.

My receipt (received in March) says "Available September 8th".

If I click 'Go to order details', and log into my MS billing account, it says what Beorn posted (September 5). I'm guessing that's for pre-loading, though.

I've seen elsewhere that it's a server-killing unified launch, so if you're on the west coast, it will launch Sept. 5, at 9pm PST, as Zero said.

I was planning on taking off work, but my corporate bosses decided to visit next week. The best I'll get is maybe a half day on Friday. On the plus side, my wife and kids are going out of town next Friday, so I can binge over the weekend. Time to start stocking up on pop tarts and Rockstar.

Do we know when exactly Destiny 2 will be released? Are we talking midnight Pacific Daylight Time? Midnight UTC? Wednesday 10am PDT? Midnight your local time?

I don't know if this is true. If it is, I think the thinking is with online requirements and day-one updates the three hours don't really matter.
