I'm pretty sure they choose a random number to add to your "Battle Tag". Previously they used a system (called RealID) where you used people's email addresses, but they got rid of that in favor of this system so your email address is not exposed.

Even though my PC runs the game much better than expected, I probably won't end up getting it on PC unless/until I get to upgrade to one of those sweet liquid cooled Vega 64s (because I am unashamedly an AMD fanboy).

Also, I can't aim for crap with a mouse. I may need to drop my sensitivity to 1.

Everyone just gets a random number assigned to the end for uniqueness. In your friend list you don't see the numbers. It's nice because you don't have to care if someone else uses the battle tag that you chose.

For modern Battle.net, is it a client like Steam? Or just an always on sign in method? How are the numbers selected? Does the character limit include the numbers? I haven't touched PC Gaming since... Halo 1 PC. So it's all new to me.

Just in case.

1) It's yet another client like Steam
2) The numbers are randomly(?) assigned to you when you first sign up
3) The character limit does not include the numbers, but it's still way too short

Despite being fairly confident my processors and whatnot weren't enough to play the game, I downloaded the open Beta anyways and it worked just fine. Kinda choppy, but definitely playable. Not going to pick up the actual PC edition of the game, though.
