I still don't like it. I liked playing around with shaders.

I feel a little like Luke teased me when he talked about them in the PAX keynote. I mean, I don't blame him for not mentioning that they are now consumables, because it sucks.

Also, this makes it more creepy that Tess Everis is channeling Fernando.

Yeah, yeah, microtransactions are mahvelous, dahling!

Given how plentiful shaders seem to be, I think that's a totally fair point. I'm not particularly worried about burning through shaders... for me, it's more that I'm at such an early point in the game that gear is getting scrapped constantly, so why even bother engaging with shaders? I haven't used a single piece of armor for more than 20 minutes at a time, so going through the trouble of applying shaders is just not worth worrying about for me right now. I'll just let them fill up my inventory. Then by the time I get closer to max level and start to figure out which gear I really want to keep, I'll have a huge stockpile of shaders to play with.

I'm actually getting shaders at roughly 1/5 the rate I'm getting gear, so if I think I am going to use a piece of gear for any amount of time, I usually just apply a shader to it to see how it looks and feels. I mean, otherwise I'm just going to get flooded with shaders anyway

It's a shame because finding the right shader for your armor combo was something I really enjoyed. The dress-up Barbie aspect of Destiny has now been killed for me.

I don't have that big a problem with buying shaders if they were reusable and if you knew what you were getting.

On the plus side, now we won't have to wait as long for Destroyoboy to prepare for raids.

I've put in something close to 20 hours at this point, and I'm already drowning in shaders. I've probably got somewhere around 15 unique shaders, and between 5-10 of each of them.

I don't like the new system either (I see absolutely no player-friendly reason to make them consumable), but based on what I'm seeing so far, it looks like the drop rates are beyond plentiful.

Even so, this system kills any interest I have in using shaders at all until I get some gear that I know I want to keep.

I felt much the same way, but I totally understand why they felt the need to make it less user-friendly. It's a fair tradeoff to not having to level any of our loot. Grinding for cosmetics as the true endgame is something that I can totally get behind.

It also helps that some armors and such already have a shader applied to them, though I'm not sure how random the shaders are on gear.

But yeah, I feel like I'm committing to a certain piece of armor or weapon if I apply a shader to it, and it's far too early to say for sure what armors I'm going to be happy with (especially since it seems that there are some Legendary versions of Blue gear, and I have a pair of Blue warlock legs that I love more than any of the Legendary legs so far (it's always those dang Warlock legs)...

Which is really funny when you view it on Suros guns, because all it does it give the dented and scraped paint a touch up and makes it shiny :D

I found out that there are two nearly-identical Suros shaders. The Suros Modular, which you get from the Gunsmith, and the Suros Modular Shine, which is the one that you get a stack of 10 of if you use Silver (and which you otherwise get from Bright Engrams in the usual stack of three).

Kind of neat that there are variants of the same shader, because there are some pieces of gear that look better with the Suros Modular, and it would have been a pain finding a good shader to match with the rest of my gear...

However, for the people who like to change colors around a lot within a select style... Not so much.

There is one thing in this game that I want to be MY decision, and that is my identity. This is such a stupid thing to be bothered by but it annoys me to no end. I'm fine with Bungie setting rules for certain things that we have to follow but why are they so stingy with the color of our character!?

Ever since Halo 1 my character has been orange and black...in every. single. game. I very rarely see other players with an orange character. It's me. ManKitten is a Bengal tiger and is orange and black.

In the game, in the action, nobody can tell what chest piece you're wearing or what boots you have one...but from across the map, they can see your colors.

So I guess for another 3 years, I've got to play with a character I hate looking at until I finally find an orange and black shader, if one even exists, AND THEN I have to ask myself is it worth putting on my current armor in the event I get something different or better?

Stupid.

Aside from this, the game is amazing and perfect.
