We figured out the mechanics pretty quickly, but it tool us some time to really get the flow. Still didn't make it to the second damage phases though. I think once we optimize DPS we'll get him pretty quickly.

We spent so long screwing up and not getting to the damage phase at all, that I honestly wasn't convinced we were on the right track. I thought we were missing something or doing something wrong. We were just executing poorly.

I'm still really trying to figure out a loadout I like. I'm in a situation where the only primary I have that I actually like is MIDA, and the only heavy I have that actually feels effective is Merciless. So it's been a juggling act of trying to effectively control adds or effectively burn the boss, but it feels like I don't have the equipment to properly do both.

We finished The Guantlet tonight (I really, really love that encounter. It's the right mix of shooting aliens, coordination, improvisation if something goes wrong, and platforming). I really like the "hit your marks" aspect of this raid in general, with it still being a hell of a lot more forgiving than King's Fall.

Agreed, the Gauntlet is great.

We got to Callus and spent some time banging our head against him. We spent a lot of time just getting to the first damage phase. We spent some time juggling players around between in or out positions to see where folks were comfortable, and spent a lot of time just plain not executing well (a lot of that is on me for sure, tonight--I wasn't playing well at all once we finished the Gauntlet). We only got to the damage phase once before it got too late for folks, but I think we have it figured out now and will be able to take him out next time we jump in.

The raid has been fairly bug-free for us so far (knock on wood), with the one exception being the corpse run to the loot chest. It'd be awful to not get credit for completion on the final event. If it really is as common as it sounds, I bet Bungie's going to have it fixed soon.

I don't know that it's "common" but I've definitely seen a few reports of it happening.

I've seen lots of reports of the death loop happening. Also, apparently if it happens at the final boss, the chest rewards will pop in your postmaster, bit you won't get credit for actually completing the raid.

*SP* Raid Encounters (that aren't the Labyrinth) (reply) Baths method my raid team did tonight to clear it in ONE phase:

Our raid is composed of one Warlock, two hunters, and three titans. Warlock goes stormcaller, hunters go poledancer,
and titans go hammer bros. Initial setup as normal. When the dps phase starts, Stormcaller clears adds out of the room with his super, then one of the poledancers supers to kill the bathers as they spawn. If needed, cycle to 2nd poledancer when the first's super runs out. The hammerdins all pop their supers and hammer the living shit out of their chandeliers (each hammer homie is assigned a specific set). Warlock and hunters can help out when adds are thin.

Bam, phase complete, fight over.

PS4 crew's successful encounter tonight *SP* (reply)

After two and a half hours and like seven Seriously-This-Is-The-Last-Runs from TheeChoas (Good luck on your interview!), we conquered the Pleasure Gardens.

I knew we were gradually getting better at execution, and I know we were on a roll towards the end. As soon as we get to the next event, I'll just say I have to go as soon as it starts, so we can finish it sooner. =P

I think this encounter is really fascinating, and it continues the cool tone from the first two bits of the raid so far. I'm really liking that the encounters so far are just mechanically interesting and demanding, without stupid DPS checks (or, at least, the DPS checks are built into the mechanics and buffs you need--you're not going to fail these encounters because you don't have any Black Spindles).

I think we actually figured out what we needed to do for this encounter fairly quickly, but it took us a while to get the execution right. We did quite a bit of experimenting with how the buffs stack and then just a lot of time fucking it up. Felt really good to get it done in two phases, though.

Figuring out a pattern and getting more comfortable with navigation around the dogs was key. Now that we know x48 stacks does ridiculous damage, once we get better geared, we could probably do it in one phase.

Here's a video that is timestamped for our final run.

We also did a bit more exploring in the underbelly and found quite a few chests that we just don't have the correct keys for. Unless there are a lot more encounters than I'm expecting in this raid, it seems like there are more chests than you'll get keys for. I'm wondering if it's just random and you'll never be able to get every chest every week, or if there's just a lot more we haven't discovered yet.

Maybe we will get a drop tonight Cheapley....

I'm enjoying the artwork here the most. I did not expect to be landing on a Golden Palace. The opening area had me awestruck. The mechanics have been clear yet disguised. I'm looking forward to continuing the raid.

Yeah, it's all refreshing, and I'll gladly grind the raid over and over for the shader alone.

My only complaint so far, it doesn't seem like you get drops, at least from what I have seen. While we haven't fought a boss yet (hopefully soon!) We have only got a few key items, High power legendary engrams, and tokens for a new vendor. I'm hoping that we get gear drops during the Raid, as opposed to only being able to use tokens.

The Bath house does have drops. Remember when I was saying that Sammy got a Ghost?

Turns out she had gotten the raid Auto Rifle, called "Ghost Primus", and it looks pretty dang sweet (also has a perk called Ambitious Assassin, which overflows the magazine based on rapid kills before reloading, which I'm sure isn't exclusive, but I hadn't heard of it before). Also has the raid shader as the default color preset, so it saves you some glimmer. :P

*SP* Raid Encounters (that aren't the Labyrinth) (reply)

The only spoilers here are content, not mechanics.

So my clan went into the raid tonight. We plowed straight ahead and took the flamelaunchers up to what appeared to be the front door. Is this the "garden encounter" you guys discussed? It didn't seem like a garden to me at all. Maybe a courtyard? Anyway, the message was "Emperor Cassius sends his legions against you" and then the game is afoot.

I must have missed the launchers, I was too busy taking in the beautiful scenery then we found the switches and played with them. =P

We completed this encounter (pretty fun, not that complicated, seems to have unlimited time and no enrage and also it's not a darkness zone so if you die you just come right back). The rewards were high light engrams (same light as your theoretical max, rather than 10 light below it), but no "raid loot" per se.

This section took us awhile, we were always just a few seconds late, but we finally had enough heavy/supers stacked we were able to get all 3 together at once. Really fun, also a SUPER good farming spot. I am sure everyone on our team got at least 1 legendary in our time there, I know I got 2 before the chest. Lots of Experience as well, a few of us got earned our Bright engrams here.

So we figured out you don't need to kill all 3 at once. Explanation in spoiler:

Once you plant a flag, Two sets of special enemies start appearing. One is a guy who slowly walks to the flag and if he touches it, the flag returns to its original boss (who respawns). The other guy is a psion type (called "counsellors" in the raid announcements) who gives the flag returners an unbreakable shield after a few seconds. So we split our raid into two groups of 3.
One group killed the flag guys one by one (one super per guy, basically) and ran the flags back to the emblem, and the other group just defended the flags from the recapture guys. Whenever you see an announcement that a counsellor has appeared, one of the defenders hunts around for him and melees him to death (he's in an unbreakable shield similar to the guys in the baths). With this method the whole thing takes maybe five minutes and is really easy.

After that was "the Baths."

This encounter took the rest of our night. We're pretty sure we've got it down, but we never quite got the execution perfect. We'll probably one-shot it tomorrow.

Same here, I was about to get off, then we put on our big boy pants and knocked it out. Just a tip, under spoiler if you want it. Just how we figured it out. After completing this we realized we were nearly full of legendary engrams and I needed to go to bed anyway, so we turned in at the tower.

When you are damaging the cisterns in the middle, only take out 3 in a phase. We were able to get 4 in one phase, but it cost us alot of revive tokens due to the spawning Psion. You will definitely think you are wasting alot of time, but its a good chance to pick up Power ammo from the dead adds.

Thanks, we figured that out, too. We got through two full phases, but we have one friend in our raid who is a little... bad, I guess. It's not so much his personal skill as his decision making. If things go at all sideways, he is incapable of adjusting, and just panics and freezes up. So if anyone on his side died, it was a full wipe because he'd stop doing anything while he freaked out. Also he blinded himself with a stun grenade and couldn't figure out what made him blind. I love that guy, but he's not your prototypical raider, if you know what I mean.

Didn't really see anything else in the raid, but what we did see was great. That baths encounter has been really, really fun to figure out.

---

Judging from the other thread (and from my own impressions of the raid entrance), there seem to be multiple "first" encounters that you can access. Pretty sweet imo.

Three rounds is definitely the safe bet, but there is a lot of wasted time there. It's definitely possible in two, and I'm curious if a high-leveled, perfectly equipped team could do it in one. Adds would be the biggest problem there, you'd probably need everyone with the buff in the middle shooting the sensors to get it done in one.

It was definitely a fun encounter to work through. I'm glad we got it done--I was getting pretty frustrated at myself towards the end. I kept dying for the absolute dumbest reasons and just making stupid decisions. I switched to my Merciless at one point to see if that would take care of the Bathers any more efficiently. It literally took me three deaths to remember that I had done so--I kept trying to switch to my sword and was really confused as to why it wasn't coming up. I felt like such an idiot when I figured it out. ):

Hopefully we get real drops from the bosses. Sammy, Korny, and I played with the raid shader last night, and it looks really good! White with gold accents and a dash of purple. Looks awesome on most of the weapons I've previewed it on, and I'm rocking it on my chest and helmet now.

Cant wait for more!

Me either! I've really loved it so far. You can see where they pulled in design elements from previous stuff, but the way it's designed and the art is unlike anything we've seen before. It seems huge, with a lot more exploration than any other raid, and I like that the environment is completely different from anything else in the game. All the other raids were awesome and cool looking, but they still looked like environments we had seen before, just taken to the extreme. Leviathan looks completely new and different, and I love that.
