Hey, Guys Look at this fun ONI desktop image I found! (reply)

Yeah, I was being in character for the OBO skin.

It was a re-work of an existing desktop they put out before ONI launch. The Christmas Version was available on the web site (IIRC) the holiday after ONI launched, and was my desktop on my PowerBook 520c Until I was reprimanded at school for having something too racy as a Desktop. Lady shoulders are detrimental to a young mind, I guess.

Hmm, that's not what I'm thinking of (reply)

What I'm thinking of, and what I'm almost certain that is, was this great interactive map of the three parks that was animated with the monorails and characters sorta walking around and rides doing their things. And you could click on each one and get details on each attraction. Some had video. Some had little interactive games. And there were easter eggs and hidden mickey silhouettes hidden all over the place that would unlock secret content.

And it was a a pre PowerPC application and very much will not run anymore. :(

Old habits. (reply)

I try to get everyone at work just to embrace the march of technology. But given that they only agreed to properly utilize DHCP within the last year. . . Well hopes are not broad. But familiarity and prior investments will cause a lot of holding on.

Albeit, I do still idly collect CDs and have a growing Vinyl collection (though I don’t own a record player) so there is something to be said for that familiarity. Or nostalgia.

…Make sure you choose the right platform, and stick it in your USB external superdrive.

Seriously, I can confirm it still works on modern Mac stuff. Or, at least the training section did. Though, I do NOT recommend using a trackpad.

(Also, as someone who just spent 20 minutes copying ~600MB, WHY the hell are y'all using Optical media in this day and age?)

And for Cody's concern, It's clearly low Rez, but it looks fine.

I don’t know many people with desktops at all anymore, and know quite a few people that don’t have PCs at all, just a tablet and a phone (which sounds like a nightmare to me).

I find my optical disc drive invaluable since I use it to burn media all the time. But there isn't a single Apple Mac you can buy new currently that has an optical drive inside.

But disc burning is really the only thing I use it for now. I can't recall the last time I used it for anything else. It's definitely going the way of the floppy. But I think as long as people has DVD and Bluray players they will still be a thing.

I’d definitely include one if I built a PC. I’ve owned a Surface Pro 4 since that launched a few years ago and don’t use or have anything else. I don’t know many people with desktops at all anymore, and know quite a few people that don’t have PCs at all, just a tablet and a phone (which sounds like a nightmare to me).

I’ll build a gaming PC eventually. I’ve said that for five years now, but it’s just never made the priority list.

How to Play on OS X (reply)

http://mods.oni2.net/node/320

1. Download OS X Intel app.
2. Copy the GameDataFolder from the disc over
3. Place App in the same folder.
4. Follow the directions in the txt to get around gatekeeper.

Enjoy.

Menus and chapter screens do not scale up if running at larger resolutions, but the game does. Tested on OS X 10.11 and 10.13.

Do not play it on PS2. It's horrible.

Just buy a disc online or something. If you have a Mac, there is an OS X version of the app you can download. If you have windows, I dunno you might be able to run it as is.

I haven't even seen a computer with a disc drive in like five years, much less own one.

I found the disk with the Intel port of the app itself (requires 10.6 or higher), but I'm not sure what you can do about the actual game; the app simply replaces the original app, so you need to have the original game files.

I just tried moving it to my main work machine (running 10.12.6), it launches (the second time through), but nothing happens. Works fine on an older machine (running 10.6.8), but I don't know if it's just the OS or if there's some serial number stuff on the old one that wasn't in the folder I transferred over. :(

Bottom line - I don't know if it still works on current OSs. :(

Also, the HUD elements don’t scale up as the resolution increases. The HUD is teeny tiny at 2560 x 1600. Good luck if you have a retina or 5K display :-/
