Thanks to the help of Chappy & Co, I did the entire Crown of Sorrows raid tonight. It's a really good raid! I think I like Scourge of the Past a bit more, overall, just because it's a bit more novel, but Gahlran is right up there with Skolas as one of my favorite Destiny encounters, I think.

It's honestly damn near perfect, I think. It's demanding, you have to be able to improvise, but you actually can improvise. A death isn't an automatic wipe. We had quite a few good saves and people rotating out of position to cover for something else on our winning run. Just a really great encounter, and it feels great to find a rhythm in a way that I don't think it has in the last few raids. Scourge became rote really fast because there's just not enough going on to deal with, nothing that really keeps you on your toes.

The best part is that there's no symbols to call out, no hidden shit that only one person can see. I hope that mechanic stays in whatever hole they buried it in.

Don't tell me. You were done by 11:10.

A little positivity, playing Crown of Sorrow last night. (reply) It's not that 2 needing it is a problem, it's if 1 needs it <8s or so AFTER the other team, as it takes 5-10s to respawn for another use. But timing it as 2 groups probably wouldn't be that bad.

A little positivity, playing Crown of Sorrow last night. (reply) We didn’t call them anything last night. We just assigned them to each platform. Every platform got the thing that is clockwise from them, and we’d just call out our platform needed a buff if we needed a cross shoot from someone with the buff.

Due to the way we were doing it, I didn’t realize two needing it would be a problem. I just assumed that it would transfer the buff to multiple people if they were both in proximity. Do they take a while to refresh before they can be used again? Is that what the crystals are doing?

I only did that encounter, I haven’t seen the rest of the raid, so I assume that’s a mechanic that was built up through the previous encounters.

Might run into problems keeping enemies under control.

We very briefly tried it in our blind run (although it had become slightly less blind by that point). The problem that immediately cropped up was how to coordinate the gumdrop transfers so that two groups wouldn't need the same gumdrop and the same time.

Also, what do other people call the gumdrops (Actual Name: Witch's...Things?).

A little positivity, playing Crown of Sorrow last night. (reply) I was wondering about a sort of rotation strategy, too. Keep the three pairs of players, but just have them dedicated to different things. One for Crystals, one for bathers. Might run into problems keeping enemies under control.

I’d really love to see that raid.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A little positivity, playing Crown of Sorrow last night. (reply) I like this raid too, but I haven't seen much discussion about it. I was telling Speed the other night about the Anarchy strategy for the Deception fight, which is really effective (if you have one!). We tried it to complete the challenge, but will likely continue to use it going forward.

I'm sure there are some other strategy differences between the teams that have done it. Has anyone tried using dedicated Crystal team for the final fight?

A little positivity, playing Crown of Sorrow last night. Thanks for the invite to the final encounter of Crown of Sorrow last night, folks. The Solstice grind had me feeling sort of down on Destiny.

Playing in that encounter reminded me why I love this game. We didn’t even get to the damage phase, but I already love that encounter. It’s exactly the the type of stuff I enjoy. Lots of things to juggle, but lots of room to maneuver and lots of freedom to improvise and make great saving plays when you’re on the edge of failure.

I especially love to see the passing of the buff mechanic. I loved that aspect of Skolas. This encounter has a lot of similarities to that one, actually, and it’s really fantastic.

I’m going to try to set up an event to do some more Crown of Sorrows. I’d really love to see that raid.
