It looks like a hybrid first person shooter / RTS

OH SHI- THIS IS MY CHANCE! (reply)

1¢ - Is it just me, or does it seem like Marcus is talking to himself through the trailer? It's probably just me.

1¢- It's a new game, and yet I feel I've seen this before. We're at the point now that I'm getting some 2007 WWII Déjà vu, but for Science Fiction Robot "Save Our Dumb Asses" blah blah blah. I'm not saying it's going to be bad, just that timing may kill it.

Marcus, brother you may be a touch late to this party. Goodluck on that sell.

Yeah… I was like "Oh, this is like Titanfall?".

I think it looks cool as hell. I really love the aesthetic. Wish we’d have seen a bit more gameplay. What we saw was just some dude hovering, but I can imagine how cool it might be to be zipping around in the air shooting stuff and blowing shit up.

It's definitely cool! That's why we've seen so much Sci-fi stuff as of late. It's a very freeing aesthetic to do whatever. Yet, if you cut out the title caps and told me this was a new Apex expansion, I think it would be frankly hard to tell at first glance. If my thoughts on this are true at large, that's a problem.

I feel like most sci-fi shooters look too similar these days. I'm interested because of the talent behind the work; but like any other game, it's the way it feels that's going to make the difference.

Details from EDGE magazine: (reply)

I'm dying for another good Sci-fi FPS- they feel so rare of late. Can't wait to see this in action at GamesCom.

My sentiments exactly. Thank you for the info!

Thanks for the scoop Cyber! (reply)

Thanks for the scoop Cyber! I've been waiting for the Gamescom Disintegration reveal, but getting a few of these as of now unreleased details has been cool.

Do you think we will get any other awesome reveals from Gamescom?
Bungie should be showing off some more of Shadowkeep I'd imagine - In the recent past they've always had a special spot in their heart for Köln, Germany.
Could we get any new Golem info?
I'm curious what Sony's press conference will be about. Could they have PSVR2 already, before PS5?
Could nVidia have MORE graphics cards to show (like last year)?

Definitely getting new Shadowkeep stuff, both at the Xbox Conference and the opening night conference. As far as I've been able to find though Sony won't have a press conference at all, though some of their games (like Death Stranding) are slated to be shown at the opening night conference.

Personally, I'm mostly stoked for the Cyberpunk 2077 details and videos they are going to release!

Details from EDGE magazine: (reply) Lore:

  • Game is set 150 years in the future
  • To counter a pandemic, humanity has discovered how to transplant a human brain into a robotic chassis.
  • This process is called “integration”.
  • Civil war erupts between integrated humans and humans who resist being integrated.
  • Disentigration’s protagonist is a defector from the integrated faction named Romer Shoal, one of the first to be integrated, and a former television host from a show about “Gravcycles”.
  • ”Gravcycles” are hovering motorbikes that were built to function as search-and-rescue vehicles, but have since been retrofitted for combat during the war.
  • Shoal’s job in the integrated faction was to find and repossess gravcycles for the war effort. He starts selling some of them on the black market to a rebel group called the Human Liberation Coalition (HLC). Shoal is eventually found out and imprisoned.
  • Shoal eventually escapes and starts recruiting rebels to his squad, intent on taking the fight to the integrated forces.

Gameplay:

  • It’s a first-person shooter with squad-control elements. Players will pilot a gravcycle, while being able to quickly give commands to AI-controlled friendly soldiers.
  • Terrain is destructible, allowing you to demolish enemy cover.
  • Player & ally health is restored by activating a cool-down ability, or by moving through a cloud of healing nanites that erupts from the corpses of downed enemies.
  • If a robotic ally “dies”, it’s brain canister is ejected, and if you don’t retrieve it within a time-limit, the mission fails. If you do manage to retrieve the canister, the ally will respawn after a set amount of time (The article doesn’t mention anything about fleshy meatbag allies).
  • The campaign will feature a variety of locations such as the Rocky Mountains, an Arizona desert, and an inland sea on the east coast caused by rising sea-levels.
  • The campaign currently has 13 missions, and is estimated at 10-12 hours to complete on average.
  • There will be some form of PvP multiplayer, but the article doesn’t describe it in very much detail- It sounds a bit like Assault from Halo, where the objective is to detonate a bomb behind enemy defenses.

Art:

  • Every screenshot and piece of concept art shown in the article evokes Lehto’s style that we remember from Halo. Large, futuristic structures, grassy fields, mountains, and plenty of robots with guns.
  • Gravcycles look a lot like if the UNSC wanted to build a heavily-armed counterpart to the Covenant Ghost.

I'm dying for another good Sci-fi FPS- they feel so rare of late. Can't wait to see this in action at GamesCom.

I was able to get access to the article with a free trial for the EDGE magazine app on iPad, I recommend checking it out if the above sounds appealing to you.
