Out of curiosity, what method are you using to select your pivot? First element? Random element? Median of three?

Obviously it can have a major impact in the performance of the algorithm :)

Hmm, well I tried to take the day off for my birthday... and then things blew up at work overnight. And I mean "blew up" in the almost-literal sense, if you consider circuit breakers tripping shutting down lots of critical servers in the middle of a 21 hour test "blowing up"...
