Is anyone else playing the new Zelda?

I ended up admiring Breath of the Wild more than I actually liked it. Which isn't to say I didn't like it--I put like 50 hours into it and enjoyed large portions of it (mostly just exploring Hyrule).

I like Tears of the Kingdom far more. Like, it might be one of the best games ever made. I haven't felt like this playing a new video game in a long time. It's really that good.

Agreed. I really liked Breath of the Wild, but not in a “wow, this might be my favorite Zelda” type of way. But Tears of the Kingdom sure is something else. I haven’t had this much fun and attachment with a new game since probably Red Dead Redemption or Mass Effect 2 and 3. I can’t get enough of this game.

It’s also crazy how absolutely ridiculously massive the world is, and I’m not tiring of exploring it and finding all kinds of little or big surprises all over. Fantastic game.

Okay, so how much of the appeal of this game and its predecessor comes from nostalgia?

Except for Mac titles going all the way back and some of the first generation of arcade titles, I'm uncultured as a gamer. My experience is (shamefully?) shallow in regards to console game canon. MY first Xbox was the first real game machine in my house since a big clunky PONG thing I had in the 70s. Sonic, Zelda, even the name Mario mean almost nothing to me.

I've read the reviews of these games with interest, but are they for me? And who is going to loan me their switch?

fwiw, I never got into any of the Zelda games, but Breath of the Wild was amazing. It was the perfect mixture of open world exploring, button mash battling, precisely timed battling, puzzle solving, boss battles, side quests, and collectibles (well, most of the collectibles).

These are my opinions.

I have spoken.

Tears of the Kingdom (reply) I've been excited about it ever since I completed BotW....yet I haven't purchased it. Don't know why.
