I buy on Xbox for cross-platform games. Having Discord support that works well is a big reason.
The rest is stuff that is various levels of preference. Xbox menus are better, Quick resume works better (at all?), remote app control works better, I prefer the Xbox controller (I also have an elite).

Exactly. I bought the PS5 version but was unhappy mainly because I love my Elite controller so much. The game started flaking out on me one day, and I decided to try and get a refund. Went ahead and bought the Xbox version, and I'm glad I did (though I wish CheapLEY would accept my Embark friend request! :)). Unfortunately, my refund request moved up the chain and ultimately got rejected. That's okay. I've paid more for games that I enjoyed less.

Ordered on Playstation, but I'm second guessing that. Xbox chat is most convenient for many of my peeps.

Oh man just seeing this. I'm in. We'll see how much I keep this up after Marathon eventually drops but I've been playing this hardcore lately. Will probably be pushing 3 mil when the expedition takes off.

Primarily a solo player but happy to group up if you see me on.

It's the perfect mixture of gain/progression and "I don't want to lose it (but I know I won't lose it ALL)"

I spent some time using free loadouts and just running those events over and over to load up on equipment that I could take back in for riskier runs.

That's basically what I'm doing now. Using free loadouts and pecking away at quests, ranking things up, gathering materials. It's a hard life but it's been fun.

Once you get your crafting stations leveled up and find some Blueprints for weapons, it gets much better. I go in with an Anvil and a Venator almost all the time now, and it's such a great loadout. The Anvil is basically a Destiny Hand Cannon, it uses Heavy ammo. The Anvil is a Medium Ammo pistol that makes short work of enemy raiders if you have to fight.

It gets a lot more fun when you have some excess materials and can craft a decent loadout at will without having to rely on a free loadout to go back in. It takes a lot of the pressure off.

The Raider Cache events are a good way to loot a lot of guns, ammo, healing items, and grenades/traps. I spent some time using free loadouts and just running those events over and over to load up on equipment that I could take back in for riskier runs.

You were in my game 2 nights ago! I knew I recognized that name!

I built a Ferro and yes, it slaps. Took out two small drones, and a slightly bigger drone. The bigger drone took a lot to kill.

I still need to figure out the whole loot/gear thing. What am I supposed to do with it, and where does all the fancy stuff go after extraction?

Had some time over lunch. Wowza! I gots a lot of learning to do. Played two games in solos. Saw many players, all looked like newbies, all were friendly. But I got straight up laser beamed by the smallest drone ever both games.

That's part of what I love. They're not hard to deal with once you get the hang of it, but they are still always a danger and can never just be ignored.

Craft a Fero. It's the best early game gun by a mile. It's a single shot rifle, but it hits like a truck. It two shots the drones, if you hit the props. It one shots both variants of the the little roller ball enemies.

The other thing to keep in mind is that shields aren't like Halo or Destiny shields. They're not just a second health bar--they only reduce damage taken. I think light shields are like 40% damage reduction, so the shields take damage but a lot of it still bleeds through into your health.
