I promptly pre-ordered the PS3 version, then reordered the PS4. Right now it looks like both are in my queue and all is well (fingers crossed).

If you were to lose the password for their XBL/PSN account, the entire game library is lost forever. You cannot lend it out, you cannot resell it, you cannot trade it in.

With a physical disc you can use it on any number of accounts, you can lend it out, sell it or trade it.

On this I can almost guarantee it was a very recent decision.

Yeah, it's a rhetorical questions but there's something really screwed up with game selling and distribution right now. I don't have or plan to have a next-gen console for a while and I know I'm going to love the heck out of the Ghost Edition pack-ins... but it boggles my mind that the (presumably) most loyal customers get the short end of the stick in some ways. Worse it's announced less than a week before launch? They can start taking pre-orders a good year in advance but can't let us know about these great offers until four days out?!

I get it. Well, some of it. There's a ton going on behind the scenes with the next gen launches and refinements. Microsoft didn't even have preloading until recently. Both platforms' online services have been adding features and benefits like crazy. I guess I'm just looking forward to next time when all of this stuff has settled down. Digital distribution has the potential to change game buying vastly for the better but so far it's kinda a cluttered mess...

Also there's no real way to order the x360 digital version yet, which while it might be a Microsoft related issue, just seems strange.

Actually, yes it does. From the bottom of the page on the orginal link:

Q. When I buy the Destiny Limited Edition or Destiny Ghost Edition on Xbox 360, will I also be able to download the Xbox One version of the Expansion Pass that comes with it for free?

Yes, when you buy the Destiny Limited Edition or Destiny Ghost Edition on Xbox 360 and redeem the Expansion Pass by January 15, 2015, you will also be able to download it on Xbox One by doing the following:

- Log into your Xbox 360 and redeem the token for the Destiny Expansion Pass on Xbox Live on or before January 15, 2015.
- Log into your Xbox One using the same Microsoft Account (Xbox Live Account) used to redeem the Destiny Expansion Pass on Xbox 360.
- Navigate to the Expansion Pass within the Destiny content page in the Xbox Store.
- Add the item to your download queue and wait for the download to complete.

A physical or digital Xbox One version of the Destiny game will be required to play this content on Xbox One, sold separately.

Expansion Pass content (which includes Expansions I and II) will only be available for full download once released.

So you WOULD have to buy the game again, just not the expansion packs.

Yes they would need to. It specifically says on the page it is only for digital versions of the game. Your Ghost / Limited edition content will transfer as well as the season pass they come with, but since you don't own a disc-free version of the game you have to buy a digital version for it to transfer the game to the next gen console.
