DBO Forums - The Legacy of Destiny https://destiny.bungie.org/forum/ Bungie.Org talks Destiny en The Legacy of Destiny (reply)

Can we have a shared world LAN?

I sure hope so! I am looking forward to attending at least one DBO meetup.

The only way to win is not to play (reply) Based on what little info we have (and it's very little), Destiny is a semi co-op, mmo-ish game. It's designed to play with others, but is solo POSSIBLE?

Is it like Dead Space 3 with areas you are locked out of unless you're in a party? Are there certain events or mechanisms that require more than one person?

Will it be too hard solo? Legendary hard? Mythic Hard? SuperMegaUltraDeath hard?

The Legacy of Destiny (Yea. I know - the game isn't even OUT and were talking about the games legacy? - You Crazy.)

I am posting here a proposed question from the mail sack. It is a very good question. I want to make sure it is seen. This simply must see light.

This Question is from poster Znite.

In more recent Bungie history, Marathon, Myth, Oni, and Halo, even as they age, can be played. They will still be playable 50 years from now. If servers are ever shut off or Microsoft or Sony step out of the business some day (or, while hopefully never, Bungie goes out of business), purchasers of Destiny will have no way to ever play it again due to the always online requirement. Halo 2's servers and Xbox 1 servers may have been shut down, but I can still play those games, still LAN them, still splitscreen, still campaign. Destiny would effectively be a brick. Does Bungie have any concerns at all about the legacy of this gaming series and the ability for future generations to experience it?

Even if it can't be necessarily answered it makes for decent discussion. To add to this I ask (tongue in cheek); Can we have a shared world LAN?

I know Bungie is doing their darndest to separate from the MMO view - but this question immediately makes me think of the plite of City of Heroes (among many others), and I would be very much saddened to invest ( the possibility of) 10 years in building a character and good times and have it all suddenly just . . . *Poof*. (This is one of many reasons why I am not one for MMOs).

If I want to I can still go and play Halo 2... Shoot - I can even play Gnop if I would like.

As I alluded to, it is very odd to ask this question so early when the game isn't even past beta(?), but at the same time I think such is the best time to do so, since things are less stone then it would be shipped, and - 10 years to think about it. I suppose that's a decent amount of time to figure things out.
