While everyone is talking about being Scout Commander, I figured I'd mention another fun thing (this time in the tower: The Floor is Lava. One of my friends has found a place where you change from glowing red to glowing blue, but that's as far as we've gotten. Has anyone else had fun with this?

Yes. There's some fun scannables that can only be reached with the blue speed buff.

I don't remember finding that.

I have found like four or five scannable items and I know of another I can't get to (saw a video and it requires a tricky jump).

I know there is also a trick you can do with the ball where it respawns in different colors and you have to get it to pass through various goal points in the courtyard. If you do this then a giant travellor ball spawns--no word if you can do anything with that.

Also found the hidden room near the hangar.

And one time I mysteriously died while I was running from the hangar to the courtyard with a message that I was too slow. not sure what happened there, whether I triggered something and didn't notice or someone else did something that I got caught in.
