Guess who just learned we have avatars.

I'm hoping this is obvious.

Well, considering it took me an ashamedly long time to notice the avatars back in the other thread, I'm pretty sure quite a lot of people will learn of their existence solely because of this thread.

Also, it's the Superintendent, my favorite Halo AI.

My avatar has a long history (probably). I would expound on the history of my avatar, but frankly I don't know it.

Halo 4 didn't let me use my 7 emblem but DBO does. You can't explain that.

... But that guy over there is named Master Craw. I created him for a concept art character design contest a few years ago, and made this piece "Learning to Fly" where he's teaching a crazy old man how to use his wings.

I love Mouse Guard, Redwall - anything with warrior animals who can speak. That part of my inner child will never change. I tend to add voices and names to squirells I pass by, so yeah, slightly crazy.

Anyway, he showed up again (and that crazy old man) in something I did last year where I was experimenting with digitally coloring scanned-in pencils.

He's been in a lot of sketches since then, with this squirrel as his sidekick with a crossbow. There's a map of an island plotted. Just one of those stories in the back of my head I pull out when I want to have some fun and not be stressed out by some project I've thought about way too much.

That's easy.

Mine is my totally awesome best friend, Ziggy.

My sisters and I were posing on the beach for my mom, trying to act all pretty, and I jumped up in the air to spoil the moment. It's the second best picture anyone has ever taken of me. :)

Considering I'm a moderator at args.bungie.org, the decision was fairly quick.

It's also my gamerpic. Might as well keep it all the same.

Mine is a drawing I made back when DBO was younger. Of a Warlock attempting to conjure some of the Travelers magic, and instead blasting the world with ingredients to delicious foods.

Mine atm is Bruce Dickinson giving the horns while piloting a commercial plane, because he is THAT cool

There are obviously many things which we do not understand, and may never be able to.

Mine is of the very-near-final design for the Mark 4 helmet seen in Venerance.

I just love looking at it, as it seems to hit that sweet spot between all the Mark 4 and 5 helmets we've seen before. Whenever I think of SPARTAN-IIs fighting The Covenant for those 27 years, helmets like this are what pop into my head.

Can't wait to see the FINAL version of it.

So, what's your avatar's story?

I worked at a company where they got a caricature artist to do a caricature of every member of staff to put on their ‘About us’ page, but they took so long to get it sorted out that by the time it was done I'd already decided to move on. I don't think it ever actually made it live, but I got to keep the PSDs which let me create nonsense like this (was going to be used on the bungie.org playing cards, I think, until it became clear no Halo-related imagery would be allowed).

...because while I can craft a finely tailored story, graphic design is my kryptonite. I can build almost anything you want in Photoshop/Illustrator, but coming up with the initial concept? Yeah, not so much. I happened to capture a nice selfie while working at my (standing) desk one day, threw a few Camera+ filters on it, and now I use it pretty much anywhere I have a web presence. Someday, maybe I'll find (or design) an avatar I like better, but for now, this is me. :)

Mine is from the Vex Propaganda poster I did for Laird's meetup at Dick's last Sunday night.

Which of course means I can't recreate it in Halo 4 :'(

I have a number of ideas. I usually do. If the time comes we are allowed a randomizer like H.B.O has then I look forward to adding a few more of the same posted theme. I imagine once DBO starts becoming archived, unless Wu keeps the picture files as well, these posts are going to lose some impact.

Just not right now.

The avatar I have at the time of post is composed off pieces of my Original Internet Home.
(Offnote: Reading some of those posts - in retrospect - is darn scary how every concern became like a prophecy. Ho-ly Sh*t.)

The avatar is composed of Emblems. They were never really explained, but we were vaguely aware of the gist in their purpose. Edit: Which was to "award" deeds done - mods, posts, contests, "readers only club", ect.

Just in case - and for future reference - there is a quote that I have always found dementedly humorous.

After reading this thread and learning that we actually have avatars, along with Tex and a few others, I chose to make mine the design I was rooting for in the DBO logo contest. It was my favorite because it reminds me of the old "FLY DC JETS" sign and the McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) logo.

He immortalized my online persona with JD Quackshot in his brilliant, award winning, critically acclaimed web comic series "Samurai Fronk". I asked him one day to make me a "profile pic" for Twitter and the rest is history. This has been my go-to forum icon/avatar from that point on

My avatar is one that I made recently, because I enjoy putting together my own avatars. The C and 5 dots is from edmDistrict which is a online community focused around Electronic Dance Music (which I enjoy). You might have seen similar avatars on YouTube where most of the community is based, anyways I thought the design was cool so I used the white community version and applied the Destiny Tricorn in the middle because I love Destiny!

The alter ego of a character from my favorite comic strip, who happens to be a space-faring adventurer amongst many strange and cruel alien species? Seemed appropriate :) I even came close to changing my gamertag recently to show my love for the character, but decided that it would be too strange being called anything other than Daax now.

I've had it for a while now, using it on twitter and other social sites. Simply based off the avatar I use from ODST on bungie.net. Basically just wanted to expand and talked to @ManaDrake and she created it for me!

I follow a lot (read: A LOT) of corgi accounts/owners on Instagram. As I was thinking I'll never have an avatar on dbo, this showed up in my feed.

Nike isn't old enough to drink so Charlie will have to do.

For the moment I'm going with Shep giving Vega sass, but this will no doubt change with regularity.

This fun little side scroller came out the year I was born. I'm not sure why my grandparents had it but it was probably my first video game ever.

Do I want Pink Floyd album art? Daft Punk Lyrics? GAH!

At the end of the day, I'm an engineer. Some sort of machine seemed appropriate.

Then I remembered the Eebs, from the awesome webcomic Spacetrawler. They're these funky little tech-loving aliens that... well, just imagine a Huragok with a drinking problem and telekinesis, and you're pretty close.
