Leveling Post Update Advice

So I've begun to think about what I can do right before the new season drops on June 4 to help me jump start my leveling so I can get my levels up earlier. Normally I would:

1. Hold 20 missions for Ikora
2. Complete 6/7 missions from Petra and then hold 1

I know that holding missions definitely counts with what Bungie is saying holds over to the next reset because it's accepting the finished mission to complete another objective. So as long as you finish a mission post update you are fine. Is that right?

So what is the best way to do all the other ones?

Like ADA and The Drifter? Am I missing anything else? Any good helpful hints to beat the system?

I haven’t looked into it enough, but . . .

I’d honestly be worried about holding anything. I’d be concerned that holding something for Ikora would just give you a 700 capped reward and then lock you out of getting a real powerful drop for the week. Especially considering how broken half of that stuff was already with the BA bounties and such.

The question I guess I would need answered is: Is the reward capped upon picking up the quest or finishing it?

Ikora's doesn't matter, because it's a thing you never pick up, so that is fine. It's more of the Weekly bounties that you pick up and you get a week to finish, like Petra's, Gambit, etc...

If it’s a thing you pick up that goes in your Pursuits tab, and it gives a Powerful Reward, it is capped at 700 if it was picked up before June 4. So that would be weekly bounties from Ada, Drifter, and Petra.

I wonder if the clan engrams will be capped, though.

Yeah, that is confirmed by bluerunner's link he gave where it said you shouldn't grab Petra's bounty, just collect 7 of her missions.

That leveling guide Blue posted seems pretty good, but I will say that the sequence in which you claim rewards can be really important. Comparing your overall power level to how many slots would be improved by a +1 drop can help you avoid dud drops.

For example, if your power is 701.8 and 5/8 of your slots are 702, you should not cash in a +1 reward until you get a prime engram to get your average to 702 or higher. Then your +1 reward will have a much better chance of actually helping.
