Bungie's Job openings are giving clues to Matter.

Matter is gonna suck
Every game is gonna have XP bars of some sort anymore. WoW's success ensured that, which is why around even Halo 3 and CoD4 FPSes started having levels w/ xp.
It's kinda hard to remember but World of Warcraft came out -after- Halo 2's release. By like two weeks, but still. The last Bungie game before WoW didn't have XP levels, the first Halo game after did.

XP bars aren't the problem. Remember, the greatest game of all time, Deus Ex, had exp that you could use to level and progress your character.
Look at how they are constructing the game. It's going to be a live game, with an economy, loot, and an investment system.

It wasn't even known until a year and half ago, so I'm not sure how you got that impression.
Edit: That maybe sounds more rude than I intended. I mean to say I don’t know what you’re thinking of, but I don’t think it’s Matter.
Come to think of it, has Bungie ever even addressed Matter? They briefly addressed the NetEase deal, but I don’t think they ever actually acknowledged the Matter trademark.

I just had some faint remembrance about some REALLY old E3 trailer(I only remember because I had downloaded it on the Xbox 360)—I think it was a big deal because it was supposed to be "directed" by Gore Verbinski?
Have no idea, but it looked (barely) interesting. Maybe I was thinking of something else.
