And it's quite lovely!

I always prefer Penny Arcade's longer stuff.

That's pretty amazing. I love the range of emotion and depth of character in their longer pieces.

Beautiful, thanks for the heads-up. :)

Better than anything actually in-game. Thank goodness for the Grimoire, even if it is inconvenient to read.

Eh, it's alright, but hardly really says anything or goes anywhere. It ultimately does nothing but postulate a small idea as an entire strip... Borderline meta way to harp on the vagueness of Destiny's characters, which has never been done before...

And in the second panel they used "it's" instead of the correct "its"...

Meh

It created a character that I already like more than any other living thing in Destiny.

I agree. It also put more life in one comic strip than Destiny does in hours of gameplay and dialogue. There is more context given in "scared" than in any of our conversations in the world.

Just this small bit of dialogue makes the world more enjoyable to be in.

I agree with most here, that was really good. I do indeed wish to make this part of my head canon. I love how dark the area feels. Like, your in a giant hole on the moon or something crazy like that. ;D

It does highlight for me one of the other issues with Destiny though, there's no real risk of failure. It's dramatic that the guardian is in rough shape and may die, but the game itself has no such tension.

Hell, you were revived after being dead for 100's of years. What's a bullet hole in the ribs going to do? She'll respawn and the enemies will respawn and Sisyphus will keep shoving that boulder forever.

I didn't actually fully understand that problem until I saw that comic.

Quite frankly, that's a problem with games in general today. Look at Borderlands, a series I enjoy but which only penalizes death with the excise of a small percentage of the game's currency (which is worthless at endgame). I actually think that Destiny is one of the better offerings of late in that it at least offers one mode (Nightfall) where the penalty and challenge are significantly higher than industry standard.

If your Ghost is killed or weakened - you're dead. We see this happen to a few (I think - at least one!) Guardians and their Ghosts during the main story.

As well, the Grimoire relates a few of the Guardian's experiences while dead, waiting for a Ghost to revive them - and it does not sound pleasant!

There may also be an issue with a Guardian dying and their Ghost not being able to get to them in time if they're somehow removed or trapped/imprisoned. We see a few Ghosts relate the death of their Guardians, so I think that may be the case.

I think it's cool that Bungie has weaved respawning into the lore of a game in such a creative way that could lead to a lot of cool stories. But it would probably help the tension if we witness some Guardian characters get killed off in the future, as opposed to just finding them afterwards.

That thing where this comic is better written than Destiny

by Avateur @, Friday, December 12, 2014, 11:08 (3413 days ago) @ SigbiasSilva

This one comic alone has more characterization, emotion, and world building than anything in all of Destiny. I really enjoy Penny-Arcade. Bungie, get your BR up.
