The whole point of The Taken King is that we have killed Crota and now Oryx is coming for revenge. But... there's a generally held belief that most have never played a Raid. So... someone in the game is gonna have to explain: "Oh yeah... a group of six jerks who you don't know killed that Hive guy on the moon who you weren't powerful enough to challenge and now his daddy is mad at you. Good luck!"

Since expansion 1 and 2 are required for The Taken King, it wouldn't surprise me if you have to beat TDB and HoW before playing it, thus giving you at least the idea that you killed Crota's Soul.

They can couch the story as "the guardians" killed Crota instead. That way it doesn't matter if you personally killed Crota.

Yes, this is brilliant
I am amazed at the turnaround here... We need some kind of in game reference to this. Guardians who never really beat Crota, or more comically screwed up the raid to help Crota win.
