Catching Up!

So we missed posting the Bungie Weekly Update last week. It's actually been sitting in our BWU archive but we didn't tell you about it. I'm going to blame all of our admin that was having fun at PAX this weekend and not me, sitting at home not really doing anything but crying.

The update reiterates on the Dreadnaught Strike reveal from earlier last week, the upcoming Edge magazine's cover story, and most importantly (and divisively) reveals changes to Nighfall and Heroic Strikes coming in 2.0.

Game Informer Summarizes Destiny's Story and Lore

gameinformer_logo.pngDidn't pay much attention to Destiny's story? Didn't read the Grimoire? Or just didn't follow it's vagueness? Well Game Informer has you covered! Today's article in their month long coverage summarizes the story of the base game and both expansions, as well as the lore you can only find in the Grimoire (and there may even be a few hints about story to come). Give it a read if you're not confident in your knowledge! (Thanks Dooskey for pointing it out on the forum).

Better Storytelling in The Taken King

heroics.pngSomething I think we're all excited about from The Taken King is the promised improvements to Destiny's campaign structure, as well as to the storytelling for The Taken King's campaign. Game Informer sat down with Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy to discuss their plans. Also, pay attention to the video and you may catch a look at some new exotics coming as well. Go watch the interview! (Thanks to Speedracer for mentioning it on the forum)

We Are Guardians Trailer

Both a recap of year one of Destiny as well as a look at year two, this "We Are Guardians" trailer has the excitement dial turned up to 11. If you're wanting to stay completely unspoiled, you may want to skip for now as there are a number of shots of Taken King gameplay and a lot of glimpses of epic cinematics in the coming expansion. And when I say 'epic', it is not exaggeration!

Legendary Weapons Not Going Forward

doom.pngKidtsunami was first in our forum with the Game Informer article revealing that Year One Legendary weapons will not be able to ascend to Year Two standards. Start saying your goodbyes - but also start preparing for some "genuinely novel shooting experiences".

Dinklage Is Out; Nolan Is In

ghost.png

When The Taken King launches, you won't be hearing Peter Dinklage as your Ghost anymore - even if you start the game over. Nolan North (who Bungie fans will remember as Romeo from ODST) is not only recording the dialogue for your Ghost for the forseen future, but also re-recording all of the previous lines by Dinklage as well. (CougRon was first on our forum in reporting this huge news from Game Informer.)

Destiny Levels Up... Differently This Time!

Destiny's Year One is about to leave behind levels associated with your gear. Game Informer says it well:

Players earn XP by killing monsters, completing missions, and turning in bounties, as has always been the case, but that experience now feeds directly into your level progression all the way from 1 to the new level cap of 40."

The article also touches on a revision to the loot-drop system: it will now check your existing gear so you won't keep seeing repeats and more. (Thanks Speed.)

Taken King Takes Game Informer

Destiny's new expansion will be this month's cover article for Game Informer. They'll be teasing out all the tidbits they learned from Bungie as time goes on at this hub page. We'll hit the highlights here in a moment, but just from their cover-reveal article once can gleam a number of things (as Speedracer513 points out), like new in-game cutscenes!

Coming Soon - Conversation With Creators

Playstation is kicking off a new series of interviews, called 'Conversations with Creators'. They look to be roundtable discussions with Wil Wheaton as the moderator. Episode 1 will feature Bungie, with Jason Jones, Luke Smith, Ryan Ellis, and Jason Sussman participating. It airs on July 7, and the official page has just a Wheaton-hosted promo... but Facebook has a 90-second excerpt from the interview itself - this looks to be fantastic!

First look at episode 1 of Conversations with Creators, featuring the Bungie team that created Destiny. Series premieres July 7th! bit.ly/1C9a14j

A pair of interviews you may have missed

I've been pretty sick for a week, so I've missed a bunch of news. I'll leave out the transient stuff (you either saw it when it came through, or you won't really care about it), but here's a couple of interviews you might find interesting, from E3: PlaystationLifeStyle.net talked to Luke Smith (minimal controversy!), and Game's Princess talked to Mark Noseworthy (summary of TTK). Go watch!

Destiny Gives You Wings

The buzz today seems to be focusing on a collaboration between Activision/Bungie and Red Bull - Kotaku has an opinion piece that contains quotes from the press release, along with some... interpretation. Even mainstream press like Time is getting in on the act - with 16 million users, Destiny makes a splash whenever new content hits. Our forum is full of discussion - what side do you come down on? Are you horrified by the commercialization of content (buying Red Bull will give you access to exclusive content in the Taken King, once it drops), or do you see this as a reasonable marketing scheme? Will you dive in and buy the drink in order to get the goodies - or will you hold off until January, when the goodies are available to everyone playing the game, for free? Sound off!
