It's an exciting time. The servers are live and it's release day in some places of the world. In the West, Bungie's about to open their doors to folks waiting for a chance inside. And for the game itself, Bungie has released notes for a day-one 1.01 patch. GrimBrother IV's already begun a discussion on the changes in the forum. The pilgramige is almost at an end... See you starside.
kidtsunami noticed a Tweet from Mack MacDonald (Director at 8-4 Ltd., previously at Ziff Davis) that suggests that Destiny will be exclusive to Sony platforms (Playstation 3 and 4) in Japan - no Xbox versions at all. Whoa.
Interesting move from Sony / Activision @kazamatsuri: Destiny is exclusive to PlayStation 3 & PlayStation 4 in Japan. http://t.co/m2lnWExDLX

Ashley Jenkins and The Know has their final installment of Destiny Week online - it's a look at the world Bungie's building that they're hoping you'll be living in for the next 10 years. An intriguing quote from Jesse Van Dijk, explaining why a particular image from early concept art didn't make it into the final game:
"What we see there is not really indicative of something that says 'Hey, this is humanity that went through 700 years of sped up evolution.' ...and we need it to."
This is a nice little insight into what the Traveler has done to mankind in its time above our planet! Go watch the rest. Thanks, Xenos.
Rooster Teeth's The Know is back with a second rundown on Destiny features - this one focuses on Gameplay and Modes. Nice interview clips with urk, in addition to straight-up info. Some Xenos guy found this one.
While it's been implied and suggested before, this is the first time I've heard its on-demand nature explicitly confirmed:
Did You Know: Each Guardian can summon their Shrike on-demand to quickly cover a lot of ground. pic.twitter.com/fZqEYrSkJw

You may have heard the Shrike called Sparrow in the past. It's your personal speeder, if you've forgotten!
Back in August, we mentioned Karin Olava's cosplay Hunter, in construction. Recently, she's been tweeting up a storm about it: on September 7, she posted a bone bracer for the forearm, on September 13 she said she was 95% done (with awesome pics!), then later that afternoon, she showed off the Sculpey details for her rocket launcher. This morning, she posted a WIP shot of the launcher itself... I want one!
This puts it in pretty rarified company: only Watch Dogs (with 5 nominations) and Titanfall (with 6, a GCA record) were as honored. Winners will be announced next Tuesday, July 2.
Nowgamer published an interview with Harold Ryan, president of Bungie, about next generation technology, MMOs and crafting the world of Destiny. There is a particularly interesting statement about giving players a sense of influence and impact in a shared world.
There will be a huge set of discussions to have about the activities you can engage in in Destiny. The designers have the ability to make something an activity that you play through, and they control the frequency that you can play through it, whether you play through it once or multiple times, and they control whether you play it with two or three friends or whether you play it in a public space, where you might encounter it every time you land on Venus as you go through.Go read! (Thanks, Xenos.)
Akmigone is back with another Destiny piano arrangement - this time he covers the music from the Destiny live-action trailer. Pretty incredible!
This Saturday has passed with no new Destiny news. (We could post summaries of the x360Magazine interview, as a number of other sites are doing - but we told you about that a couple of days ago, and we trust you to read it and intuit its importance for yourself.) There are still a couple of art galleries in the works - it's just a matter of finding the time to sit down and finish the code. Soon!™ Enjoy your weekend.
Last week at GDC, Gamespot had a (very) brief chat with Joe Staten on what he drew inspiration from while building Destiny's worlds. Longer-form narrative? Sounds great!
Looks like the forum puzzle we mentioned last week has been solved by thebruce and the payoff is pretty neat. Steve Richey (steverrr) has faithfully recreated Bungie's first game, GNOP! It's hosted at gnop.bungie.org and you can read about the development process on Steve's blog. Very cool!
akmigone posted a piano cover of the music from the Destiny Playstation 4 announcement trailer - it's really well done and quite uplifting!
This time around, we've got folks talking about Destiny's future on the PC:
We've got general-interest stories from non-gaming outlets:
And of course, a bunch more gaming or gaming-related sites (or repeats from sites yesterday):
There are a lot of people talking about Destiny - and there are still tidbits I heard at the press event on Wednesday that haven't made it out to the public yet! Amazing.
