Learning from Bungie's Past

doom.pngNarcogen has taken a look at what Bungie had hoped to do with Halo, and compared this to what they DID do... and he uses this information to speculate about Destiny's future, based on what we've seen so far. Interesting article! Thanks to Xenos for pointing it out.

Annnd... the crack pipe comes out. Finally.

Reconcilliation was curious about the lack of speculation surrounding the concept art we've been given so far - so he kicked off a thread showing off the images, and daring people to jump in. It's off to a fine start - go read, and see what you can add, yourself!

We're not dead!

It may seem like we're light on news - and we are. But behind the scenes, things are coming together; DBO will begin to flesh out in the coming days and weeks, with more sections coming online, and more opportunities for fans to show off their love. Don't go too far away!

I'm pretty sure it's all a Shakespeare ripoff.

GenGame is unhappy that Destiny is just a retread of Halo, which was a retread of Marathon. (That, at least, is the premise of the opinion piece.) Geez, Bungie - couldn't you have come up with a more original story?

Blurring the Lines

Kotaku's Mike Rougeau takes a look at what's happening to single-player games... or what MIGHT be happening. Destiny plays a big part. Good read! Thanks, KermitUpdate: oops! Looks like Duncan already mentioned this a couple of days ago! Time to start paying closer attention. -ce

It's not the tech, it's the potential

Welcome to my world.

Kotaku has a short speculative piece up on how the line between single-player and multiplayer content in games is shrinking; Destiny and its "shared world shooter" label are featured heavily. It's a quick read full of neat comparisons and exciting possibilities!

I lost on Jeopardy, baby.

Kotaku has revealed the winners of their Bungie-themed Photoshop contest, and it looks like user arniejolt won by posting his response in the form of a question. (While you're at it, check out this Bungie.net thread for even more stiff-armed imagery.)

Always on, always playing

The Guardians of Destiny took a look at the mobile device content in recent Bungie videos and did some serious speculating about what it might mean once the game drops. Some of their ideas are pretty far out there - but if they come true, what a game that would be! Go read. Thanks, Cambone.

Combining pizza and buffalo wings.

osubluejacket posted a short speculation piece over at True Achievements on "what we really know, what we think we know, what wild speculation we can somewhat justify." Be sure to read through for the unusual analogies! (Thanks, Morpheus.)

BaghdadBean's Bungie Bag

BaghdadBean, one of the lucky One of Seven winners that got to tour Bungie's studio a few months ago, made a Destiny-themed bag to take on her trip. She writes:

When I found out that I would be going to Bungie for the One of Seven studio tour, I took the Geomantic symbols from the Bungie Day news posts and the Project Tiger symbol, and started making a new fabric design.  After a week of haggling with it, I printed out a run of fabric, and set to making this Bean-Bag. I took this with me to the studio, and got all of the other One of Seven, plus every Bungie employee who I could corner with a magic paint pen, to sign it.

(signatures)
(bag interior)
(bag pocket and more signatures)

This will be placed in the RTX 2013 Side Quest Child's Play Charity Auction, and it is my sincere hope that it will raise enough money to put a smile on some deserving kid's face.

A cool project with a very charitable outcome. Thanks for sharing, Bean!

Polygon interviews Joe Cross

This morning, Polygon posted a short piece on concept artist Joe Cross. The article focuses on his work on Dead Space 3 while at Visceral Games, but also mentions his new job at Bungie creating concept art for Destiny. Sounds like we'll see a lot more Destiny art from Joe in the future, and judging by the Pike above it's going to look great!
