Apparently the level advantage caps at 30 (Destiny)

I cant find the post because Im at work, but I was reading that (allegedly) anything over level 30 is treated as only being level 30.

So while you were playing 5 levels below your opponents, you were functionally only 3 levels down. According to Bungie players within 3 levels of yourself are only at a slight advantage or disadvantage, but that gap increases at 4 or greater level difference.

Tl;Dr - Allegedly(!!!), Lvl 27 should have little issue with 32s, but 26 and under should see more of a difference.
