I've been thinking about this and the only meaningful tweak I can think of is to have a comment thread attached to each event. This may be more work than is worth the time though.

I've been thinking this as well. Something between a full fledged in-everyone-elses-face thread and the tiny comment line would be nice at times. My primary reason for never starting a thread is that I don't want to clutter up the main forum page. Maybe no one really cares about that?
