There are people who have been waiting years for inactive gamertags to become available again.

I guess my auto-renewal is going off... until it turns itself back on again... =)

I had my first pick of gamer tag when I joined and thought that an interruption of gold membership might put it back on the auction block.

That didn't happen this time, so maybe it's not a valid concern.
