Trick sparrows can't do tricks... (Destiny)
I may have run into a strange issue with the new sparrows. Several of my new racing sparrows have the tumbler "trick" abilities (hold R2 to release stabilizers in the air, use left stick to roll). Thing is, the won't roll. I've been trying for 2 days now, and I simply can't get them to perform tricks normally. Once, I managed to get one to barrel roll, but was never able to reproduce it. Forward flips seem to be possible, but the turn is slower than it should be. I tried several sparrows in SRL and in patrol, same results.
Anyone else?
ps
My guardians kick and superman tricks work as normal.

Mine seems to be working fine…
Just checked my Sparrow out (EV-37 Voidstreak). Seems to behave just like the Tumbler (note that the backflip I try shouldn’t have worked, I was just testing rotation speed):

Also, as a bonus, landing tricks after the race ends still nets you completions in the Record Book!

The only issue I ran into was being unable to equip a normal Sparrow once Bungie locked me out of my totally-not-obtained-illicitly Sparrow. That was the race that I ran with the Starting Sparrow.
Maybe it's your control scheme? All of the Sparrows that I used worked fine. All else fails, you can turn the controller off and back on to see if that was an issue... Or log out of Destiny?
Also, it's the Right stick to roll, no?

Left stick to roll
RT to release stabilizers.

It still works for me, but it does seem pretty finicky. Releasing boost in the air seemed to help.

Is it because of the new perk on the helmet/sparrow that allows you to get airtime/fall faster? which I believe is just the left stick maybe that is being finicky with the air tricks?

I suppose that's a possibility, although I haven't leveled any of the racing gear enough to actually select that node, yet, so I'm not sure.

This was across multiple play sessions, with 2 different controllers, over 2 days. I've tested 4 sparrows. Works fine with my original Tumbler, all newer sparrows are refusing to roll.

So one thing I've noticed is that the game seems to be having trouble deciding when your sparrow is in "mid air". I've been able to get my Guardian's kick/superman tricks to work more reliably, but even they are more finicky than they used to be. I've had plenty of occasions where I'm in the air, trying to superman, and my Guardian just does the normal "point" sparrow emote. It's like there is a very narrow window in any jump where the game decides "ok, you are in the air now and can perform tricks". And it seems to me like that window can get screwed up if you bump into anything in mid-air, or even just before jumping.
Thing is, I'm having these problems in patrol as well, where I never used to have any issues. I used to roll and flip my Sparrow with ease. Now it seems almost impossible.

Right after an update that made Juggernaut stay active when you run over slight bumps. I mean, I know it sounds crazy and one wouldn't think it would be related to sparrows, but what if there was some change to make the game's detection of when you're on the ground slightly "stickier," and it carried over to an unexpected context? Though why that wouldn't affect the Tumbler in particular, I have no idea.

Woah, good call

Update: Now even my Tumbler won't tumble
So strange. I'd normally just say "oh well, it's a bug" but the fact that I'm able to get it to work 1% of the time has me going nuts trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong or can work around it somehow.

It was definitely working before the hot fix
I wonder if it somehow borked it. If it did, merge control is wacky as hell in Bungie.

Helmet perk
First race after I enabled that racing perk on the helmet was on Mars. Went through the man-cannon jump and plowed right into the side of the wall. Apparently I drive with the stick forward…

I'm suddenly terribly afraid of unlocking that node

Update 2: Tricks work fine now.
I did a few races this morning, and I was spinning and flipping all over the place. Tried several different sparrows, all fine.
Either it's been fixed, or I've clearly gone mad.

Why not both?
;)
Yeah, something weird is going on.
