Grimoire & the Ringworld (Destiny)
So, I was reading through the grimoire & found this snippet in The Book of Sorrows, XLV: I'd shut them all in cells:
THE HARMONY STING. The Harmony have weaponized their dead star. They can stimulate the accretion disc to fire relativistic plasma jets. We will take the Sting. We will use it to burn their worlds. I will grant one temple of tribute to the first Ascendant to kill a world!
For those of you who've read Ringworld, this weapon sure does remind me a lot of the Ringworld's Meteor Defense System, yeeesss???? (Also, I think this belongs to the Fallen).
Just an interesting little nugget & thought I'd share.

Great catch!
I didn't spot the parallel. The ringworld used magnets to screw around with the star to cause it to flare.
You could theoretically also create relativistic jets from an accretion disk around a neutron star the same way. I think.
I wonder if some of Destiny's bad guys found some old Pak technology.
Great catch!
Huh, I hadn't thought of the Ringworld Engineers parallel, but I did read that book a long time ago. Maybe it was floating around in my head.
Great catch!
I'm also stupendously embarrassed about using 'Ecumene' and everyone taking it as a Halo reference. I think the use of Ecumene came into the Halo canon after I stopped following it.

O_o. Where did people think that? Reddit? Bungienet? I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere I check, and I didn't think of a connection myself. I wonder how many references, real or imagined, I'm missing. Probably all of them.
Thank goodness Ragashingo posted about the W'rkncacnter in #31 or I might have missed that one too.

:( :)
Dang, thought I was onto something. :) So, did you write/contribute to the book of sorrows?
Great catch!
Yeah, I wrote it.

Mad props
I downloaded it on my Kindle and read twice in a row back in the day. Bravo, dude.

Well done, I've really really enjoyed reading through that.
