I always liked the flavor text for patrol missions — the strings that pop up if you go into nav mode after picking up a beacon. We crammed some good puns and worldbuilding spice into a really tiny space.

All the patrol mission strings were in a spreadsheet, and as we went down the spreadsheet we started running out of time before string lock (the point at which we couldn't alter in-game text any more), so the Cosmodrome patrol strings probably got more love than anything else.
