Anyone here into HTC phones or devices? (Off-Topic)

by Funkmon @, Wednesday, January 13, 2016, 21:37 (3243 days ago)

I know this place is basically an Apple fansite, and they make their own phones now, so this is a long shot.

HTC has a special tiny community of super fans of their phones called "Elevate." They've got meetups, you can win prizes and they give a lot of test phones to Elevate members. Elevate members get their own tech support guy, and when my phone has broken in the past, they just gave me a new one because I'm from Elevate. I literally broke my phone and they gave me a new one.

Anyway, they purged some inactive members recently, and I get to invite someone. Anyone here interested?

How much is "membership"?

I've got an iPhone 5, but it's been acting a touch wonky. Never used anything else since 2007, but I'd be open to try something else. Even if it's creepy cult-tier...

What're plans like?

Just kidding. It's probably an awesome sub-community.

Did HTC phones get good?

by cheapLEY @, Wednesday, January 13, 2016, 23:04 (3243 days ago) @ Funkmon

I had an HTC something or other that came out shortly after the first iPhone was released. It had the full QWERTY keyboard that slid out from the side so you could use the phone horizontally like a mini laptop or something. I loved the keyboard. The rest of the phone was absolute garbage. Crappy screen, terrible touch sensitivity (I had to pound on the screen with my finger to get it to do anything). Granted, phones have come a long, long way since that thing, but I moved on to an iPhone 4 from that, had a Galaxy S4 for a bit, and currently have an iPhone 6.

I'm genuinely curious. I think my next phone will be whatever the current Samsung Galaxy is at the time I decide to upgrade. I moved away from Apple computers, and while I still like my iPhone, syncing everything through iTunes is an absolute pain in the ass and I'm tired of dealing with it.

I broke down recently and signed up for $3 a month iCloud for 200 GB from apple. Apparently that's where their engineering efforts went to, as that is leaps and bounds ahead of what I dealt with in iTunes. I rarely open it anymore and I couldn't be happier about it.

We've certainly come a long way from "It just works." I guess it's different now that I'm not totally invested in their entire ecosystem with all Apple devices. It no longer "just works" and it also cannot do some of the things I want. It used to be a trade off for convenience, but now I don't even have that.

Yeah, their quality is in a slow decline. I'm sad about it.

I'm interested. I wouldn't mind being a part of elevate. I've tried in the past but was not selected. Kind of like Bungie's User Research. I'm the perfect candidate but I'm not a lucky person, and never get selected based off the awful surveys.

I've been using HTC devices since the Hero, however HTC and I have a love hate relationship. The company has made some strange decisions over the years. Their devices tend to have inconsistent and strange build issues, after a few returns you might end up with a good one - Russian Roulette

Shoot me an email ^ if you have any invites left
