Good Time To Stop. (Destiny)
by Morpheus , High Charity, Tuesday, January 19, 2016, 14:06 (3318 days ago)
So, I was doing King's Fall last week, and I realized I had Oryx on Monday morning. And since I was working until midnight, I had to get it done that morning. I found a group, loaded up my 20 shards, and we killed him relatively quickly! I forgot to use a Three of Coins, but in hindsight, I'm glad I didn't, because it would've made me even more upset. After killing Oryx and depositing my 20 shards, I opened the chest and found only a single chest piece(302, seriously?)inside.
I figure, okay my second reward must be at the postmaster. I load up, touch down and not only is there no reward waiting for me, I don't even have any lost/forgotten items. Which means I didn't even get any engrams throughout. Ridiculous.
So even with my 20 shards, I only got one reward(from Oryx). Is this one of those unfortunate RNGypped things where this occasionally happens to others(like in Halo 2, if you select random weapons, you sometimes only spawn with one) or is this one of those "always me, only me" scenarios?
Either way, why would one of the values in a set be assigned to "0"? It doesn't make any sense! But this is the note where I have to distance myself away from Destiny. I'm officially tired of it, and I have twenty other games that I haven't even opened yet, including a Kinect one(Grrreat). So I need to get to those before servers close or something. I need a break!!

It's an extra reward at 25. Not 20.

I'm pretty sure it's 20.

As others have already said, it's definitely 20 - but in the early days, one of the potential drops was 2 shards, and I'm not positive this has been fixed.

"potential" drops he says.

You mean "guaranteed with 100% certainty," right?

Heh.
My luck with raid drops is usually pretty dismal.
Last night, my hunter got a 320 chestpiece and a helmet (low light), along with a 310 exotic, from Oryx.
So 100% might be a LITTLE high. :)

Destiny to me has become a chore again, mostly. If I evaluate my time spent in the game, it breaks down like this:
Activity: Why?
Trials: Fun!
Iron Banner: Fun.
Crucible: fun?
Literally everything else: I'm trying to get the gear I need in order to compete in the activities that I find fun. Oh, crap, this isn't fun at all.

Exactly This.

When I put on Destiny, I always think--okay, have to do the Daily Heroic, then I have to try and get some quests done, then bounties, then I have to focus on Calcified Fragments, then I have to find a group who wants to do Raid 1/Raid 2/Prison with me, then try to do that on my own...the quests I have left are (almost) all mutliplayer, and even though I hate multiplayer, I don't want to give up. But it just becomes a job rather than a game.

When I put on Destiny, I always think--okay, have to do the Daily Heroic, then I have to try and get some quests done, then bounties, then I have to focus on Calcified Fragments,
I got into that habit as well, but I think that's supposed to end around the time you start raiding regularly.
If you've gotten your share of legendary swords, and perhaps an Exotic one, I don't think you really need to worry about fragments anymore, unless you really want that shader.
Bounties, quests and daily/weekly activities are great for levelling up gear you want to keep, but they aren't going to give you much of anything once you're at a light level to do the raid-- especially hard mode and challenges. If you've got a big stack of motes, you don't even need them for that.

Don't do things you find unfun just to check a box on a list. I don't like competitive multiplayer in general (partly because of my minimum 200ms ping) but I've done a bit of it just to get certain weapons, but that's the only reason.
At this point if I'm on doing anything other than a raid, it's probably because I'm waiting for a raid to start or because I just finished one. I think the problem is considering finding those other activities boring and/or unrewarding at this point, instead of recognizing that we're just supposed to stop doing them. They are there for players at a different stage in their experience of the game.

This is probably the only thing I'd disagree with; Touch of Malice is a specialized weapon, but for the last two stages of KF raid, it's amazingly useful. THAT's the only reason to worry about fragments.

That's my goof, I was conflating the sword quests and the hadium flakes with the ToM quest and the calcified fragments.
Basically I meant that if you've gotten at least one character to the required 45 fragments for the fragment quest that ends in a unique weapon, there's no particular incentive to get them on alts or to find the other fragments (although hard mode raid seems to have a certain number of them you just get without looking).

Yet. I'd be very surprised if having all 50 didn't open something up soon. Hint hint.

I thought people already did that and it was a shader. Have I misheard, or do you know something I don't know?

I'm kinda focused on the Grim. section as well, but yes, Touch of Malice. I was with Claude in a raid the first time I saw one--I inspected him and ended up yelling "Holy crap, Louis Wu has a Brute Shot!"
Laughs were shared, and a quest was born.
Hey, when you've got a design that works...

Yeah, I'd agree. You don't HAVE to do all the bounties and quests just because they're available. You don't get a prize for doing everything. Just do whatever's fun, and maybe a few things that lead to certain items, if you want them enough. I never touch PvP and hadn't done the KF raid until this past weekend. Doesn't bother me, I have all the items I really care about.
That being said, if you've been trying to check all the boxes this whole time, take a break! You probably need it by now.
I never touch PvP either,I have 7 openPvP questlines in menu

I try to look at Destiny like Halo 3, but with rewards. The essence of this game is something I haven't grown tired of in the least bit, and find the exploration of physics (weapon / armor / super synergies) etc still very engaging and rewarding.
What I can tell you from having played WoW back in the day is that chasing after specific gear can get really frustrating.
Short term disappointment when you trade twenty shards for two at Oryx is natural, but the moment the game feels like "work" is when it's time to take a breather.

I can't agree with this more. I've take two real breaks from Destiny since it launched. Both times I had reached a point where the game started to feel like a second job. I think they were a 3 week and a 4 week break if I remember correctly. I played a few other games, or did IRL stuff and then felt refreshed when coming back.
I think he's right. I KNOW my wife would agree :)

I've felt the opposite. I got into BO3 back in late November and really haven't played Destiny since. Of course I also haven't played BO much either. I played the daily mission early this week and was sooooo bored with it. It just felt like shooting mindless enemies. :(
What has made me love Destiny though has been the community play and crucible neither of which I did. I think my break will last a bit longer, till perhaps something more substantial is released for the game. I'm kinda sad because I miss playing with y'all, but I just can't get motivated to play.

Some of us have definitely been wondering where you've been. Hopefully you are enjoying your Destiny break! Those are needed from time to time. Iron Banner is next week if you feel like jumping back in with some fireteams ;)
