Getting ready for the VoG, noob. (Destiny)

by dogcow @, Hiding from Bob, in the vent core., Thursday, January 21, 2016, 16:32 (3453 days ago)

So, I've been running through Vanilla Destiny with my bro-in-law the past month or so. We just beat the Black Garden this week, but we still have some strikes to play through (Phogoth, A CELL FROM THE PRISON OF ELDERS, & the two on Mars).

We just hit level 26 and are contemplating when we should take him through the Vault of Glass. I remember what it was like running through the VoG in year 1, but things have changed & I'm not sure what kind of gear (light level) is needed to have a good experience in the VoG.

Does anyone know what the recommended light is for the VoG now? Right now I'm @ light 142, I'm sure I could handle it no problem, but I don't know about him, he's @ light 129.

Any other suggestions for taking a noob through for his first time? I'd really like this to be a fun experience for him.

A CELL FROM THE PRISON OF ELDERS

Is this still a thing with Nolanbot?

Also, I would recommend waiting until he's 28 before hitting up VoG(normal). That'll allow him to wield the relic way more effectively.

I have no idea how the new light levels work into VoG

I recently did it at level 28ish and like 159 light and I had no problem. Mind you I was with 4 other who were maxed out basically..

I ran through VoG after taking a Spark of Light without a problem. This was for my wife's character and was the first thing we did with her character. Totally possible, I would say just jump in.

Do you recall what your gear was like?

He had whatever the gunsmith was selling that day. And the green things your mentor sells. It was very much a 4 man run with Beard getting lots of assists and a gajallerhern.

Theoretically having level 40 and any weapons with over 170 light should be sufficient. I've run hard mode a few times with people for the NTTE and the lack of oracle killer weapons really takes a toll on hard, but that was the only issue. I never had a problem killing mobs even with 280 weapons.

Also, don't use SS in the Templar shields. That ricochet is a killer.

yeah, I didn't kill as much as I normally do, but I didn't die in the Templar fight. I died a few times at Atheon just because we 4/5 manned it. I can't remember, how many, but we didn't play it with as many people.

we ended up doing this thing where we swapped the Relic to me before each round we fought Atheon. That way as the weakest player I could just hold the relic bubble, and the others could cause damage.

I think we all played with weaker gear that night too for fun.

We were all in a respectable ballpark except for you.

Although if you look at player weapons etc, I think I was the only one to go with full on Year One gear after we opened the vault. That was a lot of fun and I'd be totally happy to do this again.

Why did I switch to my warlock? We're we trying some crazy die then rez strategy?

Final encounter needed self-res for security.

yeah, it was all blue, around 120. I got Vision of Confluence to drop at the Templar at 130 and used it for the rest of the raid. I got a Gjallarhorn when we beat Atheon. :)

I am VERY sure this is not a thing.

Did you mean Fatebringer?

Nah, we did normal. When inspecting the weapons, it doesn't show him using any other primary than Monte Carlo. Not sure how to account for the difference.

yeah, maybe I did use Monte Carlo the whole game.

Character name is AsheVeil btw, it's my wife's account, for those looking at the game stats Robot posted a few links before.

Maybe I got it at Atheon? I don't quite remember. I know I used Monte Carlo for a while as it was the exotic that dropped from the Green Engram at the start of the Taken King.

I've been meaning to run Hard VoG. I really, really want a Praetorian Foil, even if Fusion Rifles currently suck.
