Paging Beardfade... Or other Black Spindle seekers (Destiny)
Unless my source is wrong, it looks like today brings another shot at this elusive (for me anyway) exotic. I'm up for another go, and since it's a weekend night, I have a little more time (though maybe not more patience) to make a few runs.
Any takers? Setting up an event now.

People who have the Black Spindle...
Please share what advice you can about getting this. Oholiab, Junior and I have made several runs at this and haven't come close. We try and focus on the blights, but there are so many adds and those damn blinding bubbles.
So seriously, whatever advice you have, I'd love to hear it.

Dont get shot, check yer corners, eat wheaties

North, I'd really like to get the Spindle today. Would you want to make some runs at it earlier than 8pm PST? Don't worry Senior, if I were to get it to drop, I'd still play with you and make sure we get one for you and Junior, I just want to maximize opportunity.

For the Final room: Prioritize Blights, then adds, then Boss
Here's a video with a guy soloing it while providing detailed strategies and stuff:

Im running a raid at 6 your time.

People who have the Black Spindle...
Hide in the sheltered entrance where you first come in to the final room. You're probably already doing this, but just in case.
Don't worry about killing a lot of adds at first, just enough to clear a space (if needed) to shoot at the main boss. Then once he's dead, worry about other stuff. This will depend on your own comfort level and character, as well as how clear of a shot you have at him.
Load up on Solar damage, since the Captains are the biggest problem. And try to kill them first, even above the blights. Meaning if there's a Captain and a blight in the same spot, kill the Captain and THEN the blight. It'll be quicker in the long run without him screwing up your vision.
Take out as many blights as possible, of course.
I think fusion rifles are the best non-heavy weapon for taking out blights in this room. Snipers take too long and you won't survive trying it with a shotgun. Fusion rifles are nearly as fast as a shotgun and work from a distance - blights are such big targets that you can land all the projectiles pretty easily.
Try to have a Nightstalker tether the main boss. If you have anything that's particularly good at dealing big damage to a single target, like Sleeper Simulant or high-impact snipers, try to use those on him when the tether's active.
Having a Defender to set up a bubble in the room you're probably hiding in is helpful. Try blessing of light so you can dip into it to restore shields.
Use your best long-range primary. Stepping out of that room is suicide so you need to be able to tag things from a distance.
The updated Dragon's Breath is really good here IMO. Shoot it at the base of a blight when adds spawn in, it'll eat the adds and the blight all at once, and it's the right damage type for those damned Captains.

I'd be willing to give it a shot any time after 6pm central.

Interesting, that's totally the opposite of how I've done it before. Whatever works, I guess.

I need the ship still.
hit me up if I'm on and not raiding

I actually watched this video right after our last attempt. Stupid how easily he does it.
I wonder...

Haven't tried this, and it might be foolish with all the junk in the room... but what about a Defender Titan with a Blessing bubble and Touch of Malice? That seems like it might rip through a lot of stuff really fast, as long as you remembered to dip in regularly (sort of like Oryx Challenge Mode).

We should definitely try this.

Sounds like this could be 4 steps.
Priortize Blights, Yellow Bars, adds, then Boss. I'll definitely have more solar weapons going in this time to get the taken captains and knights down quickly.

Boss damage is a trigger.
I know that damage to the boss is a trigger for the next wave of adds. I think the idea is to take out the adds first and when you're ready for the next wave, damage the boss and continue the engagement. This is correct, right?

Yes, but remember blights will keep spawning adds (triggered as the old ones die) regardless of if you've put any damage onto the boss, so it's important to take those out if you're trying to clear adds, otherwise you're just spinning your wheels.

I wonder...
Seems doable to me, as long as you don't happen to get nailed right at the wrong moment between refreshes.

Boss damage is a trigger.
Huh. I was told the first time through that they just kept spawning until the boss died, hence why I've always hit the boss first.
Might be that whoever told me that was just basing it on the adds that spawn from the blights.
I guess disregard all my timing advice from before. I still stand by the other strategies, though.

I wonder...
Suicide, he says? Man. I've always done it running around the room like a lunatic, shooting rockets, blasting guys with telesto, jumping around, blowing supers.
I'd be interested to see it done from the room with a bubble and touch. If you try it, record it! Might be super efficient.

I volunteer for this sacrifice as well
Hit me up whenever, even if I'm playing GTA or not even online.

I wonder...
if i happen to be on tonight and you need someone to try, give me a shout. I already have black spindle, so don't feel guilty about picking up someone else instead.

I'd love to do this - but we have plans this evening; I won't be able to be on at all. :(

On the fifth day... At dawn, look to the east
Might jump ship here early so maybe before the raid we can try once or twice.
Got it!
Thanks to Beardfade, Nico, and unoudid - as well as all of you who shared tips and tricks on this thread. Finally!
Next up: Jolly Holliday quest. Crucible anyone?

Got it!
So glad that we finally got that. Can't wait to use it in the raid!

Got it!
So glad you got it! That was a fun run. And Beard, I'm glad you finally get to experience the joy of black spindle/hammer. Its a blast for a lot of PvE stuff.

Congrats!
Did anyone get the ship?
Amazingly I did!
Must be beginner's luck

Great job! I'm happy for you!

ROFL
That whole movie is just gold.

Hopefully I can actually attempt it next time.
Fucking work.
