It may as well be.I went down this path before Dark Below came out and while yes, you could still do patrols and previous campaign you were held back by the level cap of 32 light. You were also locked out of any gear and weapons that would drop, DLC or not.

Ah, yes I did.
I let my PS+ lapse for a month and didn't buy Taken King either.
Destiny was lifeless for a player like that.
