Was the Waaaaaaaaaahmbulance Not Politically Correct Enough? (Destiny)

I miss that, too. But they already have PR image problems, so yeah, maybe that wouldn't go over well right now.

lol. I miss that.

You could get away with a lot more during that time, too.
Now everyone can get so worked up and butthurt and offended over anything that mob rules.
I remember the waaaaambuance that was a Halo 2 warthog in medic colors, and Frankie was writing updates.
Good times.
Sadly, the Bungie of today is not the Bungie I loved then.

lol. I miss that.

Yes and no. I don't think the fans are the same either.

If Bungie reverted to the old ways, I think the fans would - after a brief period of being driven to the hospital in our titular waaaaambulance - totally be down with it. I know I would.
I find it very hard to complain about a company that's open and honest, and very easy to complain when I feel like a company is intentionally misleading me.

I also really dislike how this "mob rule" term has been applied to any community that's angry and vocal, or that's vocal and gets what they want-- except for (usually) communities that the person using the term is a part of.

What's the majority in a gaming community anyway, those who express themselves on the internet the loudest?
This debate has gone on for a long time. One thing I always respected about Bungie was they trusted their own judgments (made games they wanted to play) while taking community feedback under advisement. As a much bigger fan of republics than straight-up democracies, I can get behind that.
Just because of majority of people believe something (and in this context what constitutes a majority is tenuous) doesn't make it right or good. There's a reason "mob rule" is disparaging.

I didn't mean to say the majority is always right. I especially didn't mean to say the thing you hear the most is the majority opinion. I'm not sure where you even got the majority thing from.
I meant to say there's a big difference between "people complaining" (even if they're getting results) and "mob rule". Mob rule is the kind of thing you see in a riot or a lynching. People complaining is not mob rule.

lol. I miss that.

I think it's a very charged and somewhat extreme term even if it's not meant literally. What do you think it means?

exactly?
There's no government involved in 99% of the things you see people applying "mob rule" to these days and there's no intimidation in the vast, vast majority of them. (The people using that term may feel intimidated, but they usually shouldn't because the "mob" is not going to "rule" anything, they're going to complain and maybe get a small change made, and either way it'll be over in days, weeks, maybe months.)

I really detest how "being politically incorrect" has become this catch-all cause for everything that's made people mad.

I'm pretty sure the incorrectness is not the stuff that made people mad, but how those people were treated (the Whaaaaambulance itself). It's pretty disrespectful.

To be fair, the post being mocked here did not exactly demand respect. There's a difference between fighting fire with fire and being a dick to all of your customers. As far as I'm aware, and despite all of my misgivings about Destiny, Bungie has never just decided to be dicks for no reason.

Doesn't it amount to the same thing in the end? In my (probably limited) experience, people that say they're not "politically correct" as a point of pride, really mean they're just not respectful. It seems the two terms are basically interchangeable on the internet in general.

What difference does it make what *I* say? This isn't about me - I was just explaining a bit of MacGyver's post that you seemed to have misunderstood. I wasn't puttiing my own judgements in at all.
(That said, I think cheapLEY's right - for the most part, 'politically incorrect' and 'disrespectful' are pretty interchangeable, at least for common internet usage.)

I wouldn't go quite that far, especially not applied to someplace as decent as b.org. People seem to have forgotten what it means (or never learned) but I think most of them are just... misguided? That sounds a bit pretentious... bah.

Huh. But we're not really talking about b.org. The question was, could Bungie reintroduce the Whaaaambulance without running afoul of folks who would take it as an insult just for being used. (Everyone would probably agree that it's disrespectful towards the people who are highlighted. The question you asked was, is the offense that the public takes due to political correctness, or is there some other reason for the offense? Is 'being disrespectful' enough of a crime that folks who don't care about 'political correctness' will still get annoyed by it? That's the question you're asking, right?)
I'd say that it doesn't really matter; making fun of people for whining about some perceived slight in the game will either be seen as funny or offensive, and folks who are 'proper' (in the sense that they're offended simply because it's not polite to be rude) will be seen as in the same camp as folks who are 'politically correct' (in the sense that they're offended because the ridicule undermines some basic dignity the original fan had).

yeah, that was the question, and I think it's been answered, thanks; I was just trying to understand because I felt like maybe I was missing something and looking like an idiot

yeah see that distinction is so weird to me... oh well
I think you're right about why they discontinued, but I think Kahzgul is likely to be right that the positive reaction would outweigh the negative with time
