Good Guy Blizzard (Gaming)
Blizzard has just released a patch for Diablo 2, letting it work on modern systems. This means that it can now run again on OS X, as the original Mac version was PPC only. Windows version now works with Windows 10.
They are also planning on doing this with Warcraft and Starcraft.
Not that I would ever go back and play Diablo 2, but it is wonderful that they are supporting their games like this. Diablo 2 is 16 years old.
Do you think Bungie is going to update Destiny 15 years later?
Maybe!

They updated Halo PC 11 years later. :)
Maybe!
And Halo: Combat Evolved got an update to run on a new console some 13 years after its release...

An update to run on XB1 would imply that the original license could be used on XB1. That's a port.
Bungie also wasn't the port studio.
Marathon got open sourced
Didn't it? Or did it just get reverse engineered into Aleph one?

Marathon 2 was open sourced.

Based off their legacy sustain track record for games they have rights or quasi rights to do so, yeah.
Halo PC got a patch to work after the Gamespy shutdown.
Halo 2 Xbox had stats working up until Microsoft shut down the original Xbox Live. They even came back and updated the MOTD (IIRC, with the time they had left an actual playlist update was too sketch to attempt). It's likely if OXbox Live still worked and Bungie still had the legal right to do so, you'd STILL be able to record games for H2 from Bungie.net
Bungie.net even kept updating your Reach Firefight leaderboard after they were forced to cutoff the stats (they never mentioned it publically.. you just had to know it was still updating)
In addition, they implemented that weird way to keep updating your Spartan post-cutoff on Bungie.net with that super long text string in Reach's ingame status menu.
Marathon got open sourced.
I bet if they had the rights for Myth and Oni, we'd either see updates or open sourcing of those.
Pipe dreams of a re-issued Action Sack
I wonder how much it would cost ro buy back the Oni or Myth rights. I mean, at thins point would it be much?
Myth's kinda still being worked on by Project Magma
They released the code to Myth 2 to a few people quietly, iirc. The Tain has the community updated patches.
Oni, the game that out Matrix'ed the Matrix
If someone took Oni's combat mechanics and dropped it into a big sandbox game a la GTA I think you would have your Destiny killer. Especially if they added in the cut vehicle and PVP support.
+1
