Never forever! I actually felt good this last weekend! We got to 7 wins with no losses before we started to lose. And I was actually on the top of the scoreboard instead of the bottom! And to make it even better, I got about half my kills with a sniper! So all this to say that there is hope for ANYONE if I can do that...

You mentioned that everyone here is good. I'm really not. It would take an enormous amount of luck for me to reach the Lighthouse.

Trials is the last Destiny mode I've learned to like, and that's only for the camaraderie (and the improved rewards it gives now).
