For less than they're budgeting, you can get a 4 core processor that runs at 4 ghz and plays AAA games on 720p at low settings (remember, we're a gaming forum), a two terabyte HDD, and a 2.1 speaker set.

It makes sense to get a quality case and power supply...but then they shove in $40 processors. For this kind of thing, you don't need that stuff. You ain't upgrading it.

Now, if this is a build for a friend or family who doesn't do games, then investing in the quality, but low end, components and low end processor makes some sense. They don't need it, they're not going to fill up the hard drive, and you don't want to drive over there if their power supply fails.
