Guys, pleeease don't turn DBO into a battleground between two outspoken elements of the internet community. It detracts from what, I feel confident to claim, we are all here for; Destiny-related community and discussion.

PS: Grammer-people, did I use the Semi-colon correctly? I'm always confused as to how they work in writing.

No. A semicolon is used instead of a period, basically. It's practically useless; it's just two complete sentences but in one sentence. For how you said what you said, you want a colon.

Also, I agree. Bringing contentious stuff up like that is usually not a good idea, and I don't bring it up. I just wasn't sure if you were jumping on the vague insult bandwagon or requesting it stop. I'm always interested in peoples' thoughts on stuff though.

Destiny: Ghost's Redemption, coming spring 2017.

Featuring a new raid, new crucible maps, and... PETER DINKLEGE!!! Now with actual emotion, decent writing, and probably a director who wasn't completely gobsmacked to be in the same room as this living legend and gave some actually useful direction which resulted in something akin to a decent performance.

Be AMAZED at how GOOD this game could have been on the ORIGINAL RELEASE DATE if it had just had those things nailed down. Pre-order now for exclusive access to the super incredibly very much black Armor of Thorns, literally just normal armor with the thorn skin applied to it.

There's no way this expansion is the same size as TTK. Not that there's anything wrong with that... I'm really happy with how it's looking so far. But with only 1 new strike, RoI will certainly be smaller in scale than TTK. Sounds larger than TDB or HoW, though... $30 seems like the right price to me :)

I think you are right Cruel. Sounds like its a little smaller than TTK, but way more than the other two DLC's. I'm cool with that, but I would be happy with a TTK price for that amount of content too.

Why does it having only one strike mean it's smaller than TTK? While the replayability of strikes is good, they rarely represent all that much new content or space, and almost zero story. There are a hand full of strikes I'd trade for a story mission, raid area, or social space without a second thought.

It's just extrapolation on my part, but so far you can look at the number of new strikes included with each content release as a sort of barometer for the size of the update. TDB, HoW, and the April Update all had 1 or 2 strikes, TTK had 4 (I think? Can't remember exactly), Vanilla had 7 or 8 (something like that).

It's far from an exact science, but it is a trend.

That being said, I care far less about the amount of content than I do about the quality of the content. TTK was a much smaller game than vanilla, but it felt "larger" in many ways because of the quality of the missions and quests.

I agree. It seems to me that new strikes result in the smallest amount of mileage gained for work put in compared to raids, social spaces, and pvp maps. Most strike playstyles are completely randomly assigned, so other than that first time through, the strike isn't really going to be seen much, and unless it has amazing special best in slot drops, it won't be intentionally played much either (though it will be farmed in the most exploitative way possible).

My point was not that the strikes themselves make up a substantial part of any expansion, but that the number of strikes included in each expansion seems to correlate to the overall size of the expansion. At least that has been the case so far. Smaller expansions get fewer strikes, larger get more.

I realize you aren't betting your life on the correlation, but to be clear we are working with a sample size of 3 different sized releases. Arguably, nothing will be as large as the initial release, so you could almost say the sample size is two.

I'm including all releases in my thought process; Vanilla, TDB, HoW, TTK, and the April update.

I'm not trying to say anything definite or hardlined, just sharing my own reaction and interpretation, in terms of how I'm setting my own expectations. Hearing things like "new campaign and quests" are very vague. That doesn't really give me any idea of the scope of the expansion. But we can look at how Bungie likes to work Strikes into the game and extrapolate a bit from that. We know they like to use Strikes as punctuation points during a longer campaign (Vanilla, TTK) or as fulminations of shorter story quests (TDB, April Update). So when I hear that Rise of Iron includes 1 strike, that makes me think "cool, probably a short story campaign that culminates in a strike, and then closes out with a raid (with some side quests along the way)". It could easily end up being nothing like what I'm assuming, but that's the ballpark I'm thinking of when it comes to setting my expectations :)

One new strike, but some remixed ones as well. Comparing this to TTK with a checklist of what that had isn't really how it should be. The Plaguelands space sounds like it will be much larger and have more to do than the Dreadnaught, plus we get a whole new social space that likely comes with its own questlines and features.

I'm eager. We used to pay $20 for a couple of crappy missions and a raid, this looks like a ton more than that for just $10 more.
Given the success of TTK, they could have totally gotten away with charging $40 again.

We'll see. I'm wondering what those "new crucible features" will be. Sounds like private matches to me. ;)

It sounded to me like the Plaguelands weren't an entirely new destination, but rather a new section of the cosmodrome. IIRC I heard something about them being "attached to the cosmodrome," yet with a new landing location. Either way we'll see and I'm tempering my expectations.

Cosmodrome =/= Earth. Cosmodrome is one destination (read: landing/playspace) on Earth. This new stuff is another.

I very much got the impression that the new spaces will serve as expansions of the Cosmodrome, rather than a full-sized patrol space.

. . . is in the Cosmodrome, according to the Rise of Iron page on Bungie.net. With their talk of how we'll revisit the area of the wall at which we first started the game, I'm betting it's the area (or near it) that they talked about in the very first live presentation, when they said we'd be able to visit everything we could see.

So, I just went back and re-listened to the section where they're talking about the new areas. Here's what Christopher Barrett said,

A place called the plaguelands, which is a new zone which is off [of/from?] the cosmodrome inside old russia...

There's also Felwinter Peak as you may know the name Felwinter from Felwinter's Lie...

And then the wall which is where players first began their journey, long ago, when they first began destiny.  You'll get to go back, it's changed... it's changed significantly, you'll get to run inside the wall, on top of the wall... beyond the wall.

That was an example of the techno armor being worn by a titan. The Warlock was showing off Saladin wolf armor, and it looked like the Hunter was wearing Osiris cat armor. I see now reason for those armor themes to be restricted to the guardian classes.

That said, no one ever went to a titan asking for fashion advice. ever.

Why, why, why do new Titan armor have to look so STUPID!?

by Phoenix_9286 @, Thursday, June 09, 2016, 17:11 (3182 days ago) @ MacAddictXIV

ugggg, everything I've seen about titans are just big plates of metal. That is it. It just keeps looking more and more stupid. There isn't even any embellishment on them! No spikes, no fur, no engraving. Nothing. Starting to piss me off. I just don't understand. I hope that there is more to see than that.

I hate 90% of the TTK Legendary Titan Armor. This trend looks to continue with RoI.

What I had at the end of HoW in Year 1 was lightweight, sleek, and armored just enough to look like something a sensible brawling Titan would wear into battle. With TTK, suddenly everything is huge, bulky, ugly, and makes me feel like a walking trash compactor. I'm not even sure where I found some of my Legendary gear now, but what I'm wearing doesn't seem to crop up all that often on other people (for the most part) and took ages to get (thanks RNGeezus!). A fair portion of it has recently been swapped out for Spektar gear, which I wasn't keen on at first, but as it doesn't make me look like a flipping piece of industrial construction equipment, it's grown on me. I'm still using a SRL helmet ffs because it's actually unique and doesn't look stupid.

It's a similar problem for the Warlock I started post TTK. The Legendary gear all looks stupid as hell. Thank god for the Spektar gear that's been dropping.

I'm really keen to know why there seems to be more variety (and INTERESTING variety at that!) in the RARE gear than the LEGENDARY gear. I'm also keen to know why I get the same three drops out of every engram I decrypt and reward that's given. A glance into the Armory shows me a ton of stuff I've never even laid eyes on that doesn't appear to be locked behind Trials, IB, or the Raid, so where the hell is it?

Infusion is great, but I'm long past the point where I just want a straight up Transmog system. If I was given the option to make my legendary gear look like rare gear (and sometimes even common gear!) I'd take it in a heartbeat.

If you'll look at https://youtu.be/4Mil2Iz0OZM?t=55m20s you'll see that one of the statues of the iron lords is covered up. I wonder why that is. Was one of them disgraced? Maybe that's Saladin under that cloth & his statue isn't revealed as he's still alive?

edit: that's from the concept art, later on in the stream you can see most of the statues, I couldn't pick one out that was covered up, but it appears some are holding an axe, while others are holding swords (they don't appear to hold anything in the concept art).

In hindsight, I can't believe the idea of a Gjallarhorn pre-order bonus had never occurred to me. Several people around here have posted thoughts that Gjallarhorn would return late in year 2 or early in year 3 as a way to whip up excitement within the community, and that seemed like a safe bet to me. But rolling it out as a pre-order bonus (even if it is just an exclusive skin) is a stroke of evil genius that I really should have seen coming.

On a related note, I LOVE the fact that Gjallarhorn 2.0 will be attainable through a quest. Thumbs up :)

When I read the tiny letters in the trailer, it sounds like you get access to the quest through the pre-order, as opposed to "you can get it through the pre-order AND through a quest".

I hope I'm wrong, though. That would literally be pay-to-win.

I'm also glad that it's at the end of a quest.

Before the vanilla release Deej said that your gear would tell others what you'd done, what you've accomplished. You'd see a Guardian's gear, compliment her, and ask how she got it. And she'd tell you, and then offer to help you get that gear.

The quests are an awesome way to tie gear to activities. If you have Thorn we can trade stories of fighting waves of hive waiting for that one jerk in the last wave. I want to have awesome Gjallerhorn stories from me getting it, and from helping others.

I always wondered then why they didn't have more cosmetic options for gear. Like, maybe your Mythoclast is a different color if you get it during flawless raider or something. Or maybe your glowhoo is a different color if you slay Crota in less than 20 minutes. That seems in the spirit of what they have always talked about with regards to gear telling a story.
