Not to be undone by "Fashion Frame"... (Destiny)

Someone made a Destiny Fashion subreddit. It's got some pretty neat gear, and I even learned a thing or two (did you know that on PS4 IB gear, Main color and accents are reversed, so shaders don't function quite as they should?). Some really neat gear that reminds me that you can make some really awesome armor combos if you're not focusing on stats or Light levels (or you could end up with Dogcow's Titan):
So what does your Guardian look like?
That's awesome!....but....

....something is wrong with the system if you have to give up your effectiveness just to make your Guardian look the way you want.
Why can't we have powerful Guardians who also look unique and awesome?!
+1

Yes, this has been one of the biggest (and most commonly called-out) issues with Destiny since day 1, and the entire point of a transmog system or Vanity Equip system that tons of MMOs and RPGs use.
Some of the neatest-looking armors in the game are greens and blues. Ideally I would be able to equip them OVER my actual armors, at least in PvE.
At least it's not as bad as it is in The Division, where all of the armor is not only samey, but ideal setups and loadouts make you look like a guy who was homeless before the events of the game.
Correction.

There is a dedicated appearance menu that is entirely separate to armor. Most of these items cover up the armor species, but most have the option to be removed entirely as well. While you are correct that it isn't the fanciest or most eye-catching gear, it has no effect on the character other than appearance. That said, the Division is not the kind of game where "Looking frabjous" is a side goal. Keep that in mind as well.
Ergo - What Bungie has done with Destiny in this light "is worse*". Especially with the addition of light levels to things that originally existed simply for the flair and nothing else. I half expect shaders to be given a light level in the next DLC.
*LOL. I'm on the internet.

I'm currently playing Wasteland 2. There is 1 gear slot on each of your characters for functional armor. Whatever you put in that slot defines their protection level, and has NO effect on appearance at all. Then there are cosmetic slots for legs, torso, hat, and backpack. None of those have any functional effect at all.
It's wonderful.
Cool!

It took a while, but I finally got Infinite Lines Robes from FWC in the right stats with armor boosts in all three elements.
+1000. Give me glamour dammit
