No news, but it frames this update nicely. (The article desperately needs an editor.)

Don't get sucked into the Raid matchmaking debate in the comments. Horrible idea. People just don't get that the effort to find people to play the raid with is a downpayment on the effort required to beat the raid.

It's interesting that they keep speaking of hat core experience with a group of friends whom you know, yet really only the raids and trials actually embrace that. Every other part of the game sort of treats that with disinterest. I think that's also why a bunch of the game is way weaker, since it's designed to possIbly be experienced alone. I'm not saying to get rid of those things, but there should be more highly cooperative non match made activities for us, both early, mid, and late game. I don't know why they don't start doubling down on what is hands down the best aspect of the game. Something even they apparently recognize!

I think you are discounting how valuable some of the low effort activities are for teams to hang out. It's a different mode of interaction to do something low key (like bullshitting while doing patrols or iron banner) vs something tense like a Raid or ToO.

A great example of this was the loot cave, which people seem to think of fondly, and most recently the Grasp of Malok Farm. If you went over to Reddit the reception to Farming was happiness. I think the idea of "Hey lets go bullshit and do this thing, and it's not that intense, but we'll try to optimize it well" was just really enjoyable to a lot of people.

I think the part of Cody's brain that would have appreciated relaxed gameplay is broken or missing.

There is nothing preventing a low intensity activity that is also highly co-operative.

I got halfway through the article and then skimmed the rest out of sheer boredom. It sounds like exactly the same stuff they've been saying since Destiny launched. Which is fine--sticking to the company line is probably a good thing for them, given their miscommunication before. But what an absolute waste of an article. It seems like it's about fourteen times longer than it needs to be, and it doesn't even really say anything!

I was expecting this would be some painful article on whether or not destiny is worth your time using excel and pivot tables and god knows what else.

If it's any consolation I would never post that link.

Raid Matchmaking

by someotherguy, Hertfordshire, England, Wednesday, July 06, 2016, 10:30 (3156 days ago) @ Kermit

There's Normal Mode matchmaking in FFXIV and I can count on one hand the number of times I've run into issues with it. The FPS element of Destiny requires a different skillset, granted (it's easier to be bad at Destiny than a traditional MMO) but if you're high enough light to be joining it's hopefully safe to assume sone level of competency.

Hard Raid is limited to pre-formed parties, but at least the base raiding experience is available to all.

Tell that to the vast majority of LFG Raid groups I've joined in...

I would actually be ok with this, to be honest.
