For whatever reason, I've been playing a good bit for Crucible lately. Maybe it's the wait for Rise of Iron or being (nearly) finished with my Moment of Triumph. But whatever the case, I've been having a lot of fun and thought it would be fun to show off what's been working for me as of late.

Cloaky Gunslinger:

Recently I'd devoted myself to learning to play a good Nightstalker, and I had a fair amount of success, but I kept coming back to the fact that the Void Bow just wasn't as versitile as Golden Gun. I had some good stops with my Nightstalker's Super, but it was rare that I felt I would have done worse with Golden Gun.

At the same time, I had been running with the MIDA Multi-Tool, but kept wanting to use my Bolt-Caster both for its ranged utility and to fulfill my commitment to my Hunter's fictional persona who would absolutely not step foot outside without the biggest Arc blade available. Obviously, the two are incomparable with each other, so I went looking for a MIDA Multi-Tool replacement. And that led me to my current build:

I am currently running a Gunslinger equipped with the standard Vanguard variant of Not Like The Others, some random blue Sidearm (that I now have a Legendary replacement for), and of course my Bolt-Caster. On the armor front, I'm running a Intellect / Strength build to give myself more Supers and Incendairy Blades (which I double up on with Gambler's Dagger). That makes up a fairly standard Gunslinger, in my opinion, so what makes my current build special is the use of Khepri's Sting for a limited five second cloak and backstab.

Not Like The Others is a mid-impact Scout Rifle that feels a lot like a less nimble version of a MIDA Multi-Tool. It actually hits slightly harder and fires slightly slower but with 3rd Eye it performs close enough that my play style is largely unaffected. Instead of a Sniper Rifle, I've found myself using a Sidearm to surprise enemies in close since Not Like The Others gives me the attack range to deal with even pesky Snipers. Add in a nearly always available throwing knife, and the results speak for themselves!

Titan Juggernaut:

Where my Hunter tries to start off battles with all the odds stacked in her favor (via being cloaked and getting the first and second and sometimes third shot in before taking return fire), my Titan prefers to charge head on into danger. Either to eliminate it, or at least to delay and weaken it for allies to finish it off.

Currently, my Titan is armed with a Cocytus SR4 heavy scout rifle and the Plan C exotic Fusion Rifle. She has a Heavy weapon, of course, but it is less important and varies depending on my mood. Armor wise, I'm set up for a Strength / Dicipline build with the Overload perk of Stormfist filling in for a lack of Strength. This build works well with Twilight Garison, but I've been running with An Insurmountable Skullfort most recently. The Skullfort frees up the Transfusion column to be used with Headstrong for faster sprinting, plus I find that a second charged melee is actually fairly important to staying alive in the midst of a battle.

The plan with my Titan is to snipe with the Cocytus and surprise even clever enemies with Plan C but also to charge straight at threats like Snipers or even Golden Gun users with the protection of Juggernaut Shield. With the shield up, I can deflect a sniper or Golden Gun shot without taking damage which allows me to at least waste an enemy's ammo, and allows me to taken them down more often that you might think. Fist of Havoc with Death from Above comes in handy too:

Those are my builds for the moment, but how about you. Do you have any good builds or build-centric combat victories you'd like to show off? I'd love to hear about / see what you guys have going!

My Current Crucible Builds (Share Your Own!)

I've been running handcannons 99% of the time on my gunslinger, but I decided recently to find one weapon of each type that are complemented by the gunslinger perks.

MIDA is an obvious choice for scout. Bad Juju turned out to be a good fit for pulse. I can spec it out for range and use gunslinger's trance to get more stability. After the first kill it becomes a multikill laser. It also frees up my usual pick of chain of woe so that I can run double knives.

I've also got a laser for auto rifle. I've got a Soulstealer's Claw with perfect balance and counterbalance. Coupled with gunslinger's trance it's very easy to keep it at head level.

I've never been able to bring myself to give up my dual knives for the short term reload boost. Maybe in PvE where a fast reload might equal more DPS or something... it just seems very rare for me to die in the Crucible because I was reloading. Bad Juju + Gunslinger's Trance sounds quite deadly though! I haven't used it in a long while, but when I was on my game, Bad Juju's infinite ammo let me rack up some sweet multikills.

As for Auto Rifles, I only had a couple at the moment on any of my characters. Most recently I had some good experiences with the slower Focused Fire mode of Suros Regime. It's basically a lazy man's Scout Rifle at that point. (Lazy because you don't have to pull the trigger more than once.) I did have to laugh out loud the other day when someone killed me with Atheon's Epilogue, though. :)

Max Armor Striker is my favorite build now.

With the last update that allowed unstoppable to completely fill out the armor bar, this has been my go to build. I'm running it with an Armamentarium with extra Arc armor boost, so I can survive shoulder charges, and flux stickies. It usually surprises most attackers and allows me time to counter them. I run a 5,5,1 maxing out int and dis. 2 lightning nades with the aftershock perk gets so many kills. Example:

http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/red%20robber/video/20101108

Yup, that was a breaker from lighting nades :P

I also run the shockwave perk for that extra range on the fist of havoc, and Amplify to help boost my super recharge. I try to stay away from close range as much as possible so my melee is usually charged every time I actually use it.

My preferred guns are medium-long range primaries, generally scouts and pulses, paired with short to medium secondaries such as LoW or fast firing fusions like Split Shifter Pro. My preferred Heavy is Thunderlord. They boosted the stability lately and it holds alot of ammo. I really love the vendor IB weapons of late. The last Nirwens with the max stability and FL5 scope is killer as well as Colovance's Duty. These guns hit hard and can kill in three shots easy. I really wanna run some auto rifles, but every time I try one, my kd drops considerably. Most of them just don't cut it for my play style. They are too unstable or weak at mid range. The hard to medium hitters are too slow at close range. The Doctrine archetype is still the best of the bunch with the right perks, but I don't have a good roll on any of those.

This max Armor build intrigues me. Will it also survive the Fusion and Magnetic sticky grenades? What about a direct hit with an Incendiary or Scatter Grenade boosted by the arms that make them slightly tracking?

Fusion no. The are the strongest of the stickies. Magnetic sorta. I think you survive the first blast, but have to move away from the second blast to survive. The second blast will not follow you but stay in the same spot as the first.

I'm not sure about the Incendiary or Scatter. Less likely on the scatter because of how many projectiles it has. Update: from video below, You can survive Incendiary, but not Scatter. You also don't even need the extra arc armor to do any of these.

High Speed Hunter

I have lots of fun with Bladedancers. Not focusing on the super so much as speed.

You want MIDA, Bones, and the extra control jump. Max agility, and armor or recovery to taste. Use an bonus arc armor chest, and pair with a shotgun.

This build is all about covering ground fast. if you start to lose a matchup, just jump and leave. You don't really stand still much, but are always keeping at the perimeter of a map to shoot in and flank snipers and others.

Alternatively, I use a stealth build, with the extra stealth time perk and Kephri's Sting. This build you steath and move into position for sneaky shotgun attacks. It can be really annoying to use with UR and a sidearm/sniper/Fr, but you will die frequently since you are trying to get very close all the time.

I'm a little surprised you don't use Blink on your fast Hunter build. You lose precision, sure, but properly countering Blink is still pretty tough. As for the cloaky Universal Remote Hunter, that is probably my most effective build. So much so that that it almost certainly raises my k/d by at least a point. I use that build for times when little else will work, like when playing Iron Banner fairly underleveled after taking a long break from Destiny.

I am curious why you'd pair Kephri's Sting with a cloaking Blade Dancer? Because it frees up Hungering Blade and Fast Twitch?

Blink

by Durandal, Wednesday, August 10, 2016, 14:01 (3120 days ago) @ Ragashingo

I loved blink early on, and was quite good at the blink/shotgun and blink/slide/shotgun maneuvers. The nerfs to the weapon ready time make that pretty ineffective on my hunter now, and the longer cooldown between blinks and recovery debuff are just added friction on an already difficult playstyle. You can still do it on a Voidlock with the Ram and UR, but I feel that is a bit too cheesy and mean so I generally don't run it.

With enhanced control and bones, I can still cover lots of ground, and the speed of the jumps can still throw people off their aim. I don't suffer from any debuffs, and jump is always ready. So I have moved to this style. the verticality of the jumps is often unexpected. People still don't look up often enough.

For stealth builds, Kepri's allows me to cloak and keep hungering blade, as well as getting that 4x back stab damage on occasion.
