So this weird thing happened in Trials last night... (Destiny)

by Beorn @, <End of Failed Timeline>, Tuesday, August 30, 2016, 19:47 (3100 days ago)

Xenos, Finwe/Earendil, and I played some (infuriating) Trials last night, but by far the weirdest thing was when the three of us went into a match and Destiny decided to make it a 2v1 with just the 3 of us...

...And then it shuffled the teams after the first round.

This is a really nasty bug! It wasn't a big deal for us because our Card was trashed anyway, but imagine you're actually doing well on a Trials Card and all of a sudden Matchmaking throws you into this situation. At least one person on your team is going to exit the game with a loss, no way around it, and nothing you can do!

This was a good sample of how the whole evening seemed to go. My internet connection was yellow/red bar for most of the night (for unknown reasons), and the player pool for Xbox in Trials is pretty thin before RoI, so we got put against a bunch of ridiculously-competitive teams.

(Apologies again to Xenos and Finwe for all the salt. So salty!)

Matchmaking works flawlessly. You should not complain. :p

That is seriously weird! Also: Who won? :)

How did the scoring work with teams changing each round? Did two of you stay put with the third switching teams, or did you all rotate?

Be amusing if you were on A for 4 rounds, then got dumped on B and lost, effectively having beaten yourself.

Well. "Amusing".

What happens if you drew every round?

Scoring stays with team name

For the first round, I was alone on Bravo and lost. When Finwe and I traded places the next round, I was on the team with 1 point and Finwe had zero, despite having won the previous round with Xenos.

So, so weird.

I think we all won by getting to laugh at this situation

Yeah... especially since we've seen Destiny do things like give you a straight up win and all sorts of unearned medals if the team of your peers that just grinded you into dust quit out to let someone else have a go at you... Makes you wonder what kind of weird matchmaking logic triggered that kind of split up. Just having the other team quit or drop doesn't seem like it would have caused that...

I don't suppose the game recorded on Bungie.net lists the enemies you were supposed to play?

OK, I am admittedly no PvP expert, but this whole situation seems like it SHOULD be impossible.

Yeah, something was definitely screwy.

Agreed - I was working on bounties on Monday night and it was taking multiple minutes to find each match. Once the games started, they progressed normally, except that my fireteam with fresh cards was getting matched with teams much farther along - we "helped" two different fireteams get flawless. One opponent was on a 21 game win streak.

Strange non-Trials matchmaking this morning too

Queued for mixed 3v3 earlier wnd while the long wait wasn't that unusual I got matched against a missing team twice in a row. Finished my Salvage quest in about 2 minutes flat, so I guess I cant complain, but a bit strange.

Technically beorn and I won, although since beorn actually only got 4 round wins instead of 5, I like to think only I won :)

I know you can tie a round, can you tie a whole game?

by someotherguy, Hertfordshire, England, Wednesday, August 31, 2016, 15:15 (3099 days ago) @ kidtsunami

Extremely unlikely to ever happen in practice, but I wonder if it's possible? Is there a hard limit on the number of rounds? Or a hard time limit for the match maybe? Or would it just go on and on forever?

My score was 4

Heh, game history shows that my score for the game was 4, too.
